For centuries, men and women who call themselves heroes delved deep into anything resembling a dungeon in hopes of finding treasure, goods and something called "experience points". Those days are over. Alone or with an ally, command legions of minions to drive out the invading heroes- hopefully for the last time!
Dragon's Ransom is a solitaire and co-operative card game utilizing familiar tabletop mechanics and themes. Some of the features include:

In Dragon's Ransom you will play minion cards to build up waves of minions to attack the heroes. Once your chain is strong enough, play an Attack! card to inflict wounds. But be careful, the heroes will fight back with devastating attacks. Do you spend your turns building a powerful chain of minions at the risk of having your ranks cut down by the Barbarian's Grand Cleave? Or attack swiftly with smaller combinations to counter the Wizard's timely spell casting. The strategy of Dragon's Ransom lies in balancing the strength and synergy of chains versus the frequency and predictability of Hero attacks.
An average game of Dragon's Ransom lasts between 30 - 45 minutes.
Thematically, Dragon's Ransom is a throwback to classic fantasy like Dungeons and Dragons. You'll find the familiar stable of skeletons and goblins, along with a few new surprises. The game's art is brought to life through the wonderful illustrations of comic book artist Tim McBurnie.

At the start of Dragon's Ransom you'll build the draw deck by splitting the deck into 3 piles as equally as you can. Shuffle in 4 Heroes Attack! Cards into each pile then stack the piles on top of each other to form the draw deck.
A typical turn consist of drawing cards, then playing your cards. You can play as many cards from your hand as you'd like. You will play minions cards beneath Heroes to form chains of minions, working to combine bonuses and abilities. Once your chain is strong enough, play an Attack! card and send that chain towards the Hero to cause damage.
Whenever you draw a Hero Ability card, place that card above the associated Hero to signify that the hero is getting ready to attack. If you draw a Heroes Attack! card, those ability cards will activate and break your chains.
You'll have to plan ahead and play minion and trap cards to counter the Heroes' assault. If you defeat all the heroes, you win. If you run out of cards, you'll lose.
In the two player mode, each player is limited to playing only 3 cards on his or her their turn, additionally, you draw your cards at the beginning of your turn, making the game especially tense. You'll have to work together as you synergize the right cards.

UNLOCKED! $16,000 - Card Stock Upgrade. 300gsm is only fitting for a game with Dragons.
UNLOCKED! $17,500 - Defeated Hero Card Art. The backside of the Hero cards will contain a portrait of the hero beaten and ashamed. Once you defeat a hero, flip over his card to indicate that he is no longer a threat!
UNLOCKED! - Gelatinous Cube.
UNLOCKED! $20,000 - Player Ability Cards. Each copy of Dragon's Ransom will ship with player cards that grant special abilities to each player. Use of these cards will allow for a 2-4 player variant.
UNLOCKED! $22,000 - Player's Choice Minion. Once the campaign ends, I'll open a survey to all the backers for an exclusive first printing minion card. It can be a Minotaur, a Kraken, a Sphinx, or even a ferocious Gila Monster! Those things are scary!
UNLOCKED! $24,000 - Foil Stamped Box Cover. Heroes are attracted to the shiny. If we hit this goal, all first print run copies of Dragon's Ransom will have foil stamped artwork on the gold, treasure and title of the cover image.
$26,000 - Illustrated Insert. Instead of a boring white insert, we'll print an awesome display of gold and treasure. Opening up the Dragon's Ransom box will feel like opening a treasure chest!
$28,000 - Treasure Start Token. This is crazy, the box is already crammed; but if we make it this far, I'll include a collectible gold trinket which can also be used as a completely unecessary first player token/turn token. Not real gold, obviously.

Last year, with the help of over 800 backers, I successfully completed the Kickstarter for Hunters of Arcfall. Still, I am not a large game publisher with industry connections and presence. Dragon's Ransom is my second Kickstarter and it will be a bit different from other Kickstarters. You won't find video reviews or extensive marketing campaigns with stretch goals where I try to maximize funding by overpromising. As an independent publisher, I believe in investing in a fantastic product, and not my ability to convince you to back it- it's not a popular opinion, but it's one I think will have more long-term staying power. You'll notice that I've switched identity from myself to a company. Tau Leader Games is me. It's my attempt to establish a recognizable and trustworthy brand in the board game industry. Risks and challenges
There are a lot of challenges in making a tabletop game and I am confident that I have successfully handled them in the past- the lower funding goal is a reflection of this. The challenges this time will come from improving shipping procedures to minimize extraneous costs and processes. Dragon's Ransom is composed of common tabletop components and there isn't anything out of the ordinary to cause them to be delayed or unacheivable.
