Matthew's previous films can be viewed via the following links - LAS GITANAS (password: gitanas), FRANKY, FRANKLY and ALBERT! OR, MY LIFE IN THE OCEAN

This film exists between the fluctuating state of intimacy and isolation of two lovers who know they’re not good together but still care deeply for each other.

We want to explore elusive in-between spaces not easily categorized by the mainstream when it comes to art, film, sexuality, religion, politics, etc. approaching that question mark floating over the horizon with passion and humility.

We aim to tell a meaningful, honest story about the experience of existing between a clear right and wrong, between relational, sexual, and national identity.

Many underrepresented people exist outside of the generalized binary of gay and straight sexual identity. Caitlin Michael Riley's character Hannah is one such person who doesn't relate to the experience of hetero- or homo-sexual identity. For her, romantic experience is more fluid, less static or categorizable. We find Hannah in a place where she's coming to terms with the fact that up until this point, she’s been socially perceived as lesbian, a label that has been placed upon her by only having had relationships with women. Charlie, on the other hand, identifies as lesbian, and has trouble understanding or relating to Hannah’s experience as bisexual. This is just one point that leads them down a road of disconnect.

Matthew grew up traveling into Baja California on mission trips with his father, a Christian Pastor. Recently he ventured into Baja on a road trip with a friend for a few days, and in its terrain he found the setting for this film.

To Hannah, the Baja Peninsula is a Wild West. Uncharted territory. A foreign land of sun, tacos, and tequila. To Charlie, it's a place of familial roots. Childhood family vacations. It's a familiar landscape, a familiar language, but little more than memories or nostalgia. This contrast of perspectives will provide a way for the audience to experience Baja.

The money goes into making the road trip real and enacting the plan we've made together. The funds go into gas and tacos, insurance and camera rentals, lodging and shooting locations. It will also allow our cast and crew to leave their day jobs while on this two week long production. This is the minimum amount of money we need to be able to make this work.

If we don’t reach the full amount set forth in our goal, Kickstarter will not charge your credit card, we will receive $0, and we will not be able to make BAJA COME DOWN with Kickstarter funds.

From the bottom of our hearts for enabling us and joining us on this trip. We literally will not be able to make this film without your pledge and support in sharing this page with others. We're willing to hustle to make this happen. We really can't wait to share this journey with you.

NOTE: WHEN YOU PLEDGE, YOUR CARD IS NOT IMMEDIATELY CHARGED. YOUR CREDIT CARD WILL NOT BE CHARGED UNLESS WE REACH OUR GOAL.

Risks and challenges

Kickstarter projects are "all or nothing", if a project doesn't reach its goal your credit card won't be charged, and we will get $0. This whole process is called "crowd-funding" and it's changing the way projects are being made - without YOU, your help, your sharing this project, BAJA COME DOWN doesn't happen.

With that said, micro budget independent filmmaking is always difficult. Even a small project like BAJA COME DOWN requires a huge investment of time and energy from the cast and crew. And of course all artistic endeavors including this one is subject to reality. Sometimes disasters happen like fires, car crashes, financial crises, or other unforeseeable that makes completing project impossible. Filmmaking has many variables that could potentially blind-side a production and bring it to a halt.

The team of BAJA COME DOWN has years of experience in filmmaking and with all best efforts will attempt to deliver a unique and honest film of the highest quality to YOU, our backers, and an expanded audience via film festivals and other means of distribution.

We appreciate your support and THANK YOU for believing in us!
