Your Support IS Key.

The growing support of "From Jersey, With Love" is inspiring.

But we can't stop yet. Please keep pledging & please keep sharing.

We are INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL that we have reached our initial goal, but any funds we raise ABOVE our goal will only serve to increase the QUALITY and IMPACT of our production.

$10-30K + Another Cameraperson. We are fortunate to have two Directors of Photography, John Chibuzor of Lagos and Neil Grabowsky of New Jersey, who are working at cost out of a passion for the project. To support their efforts and gather the most comprehensive footage for "From Jersey, With Love," we would love to be able to hire another cameraperson for our crew in June.

$50K + Production equipment for the Tomaro schools. We plan to rent some of our equipment but would love to be able to purchase it and donate it to the schools. When our students created their summer project last year with their "Tomaro Live Broadcast," we realized that many of the students had a lot of interest in sharing their lives and producing videos. If our crew is able to leave equipment in Tomaro, it will enable the students to realize their own visions and explore a new trade.

PLEASE PLEDGE. CONNECT. SHARE.

Thank you for contributing to "From Jersey, With Love"! Please share our campaign and our story in any form that you can.

Our story.

"From Jersey, With Love" is a testament to the worth and evolution of a disenfranchised fishing community in Nigeria, West Africa.

Before 2008, students on the island of Tomaro could only go to primary school.

My friend and fellow New Jersey teacher, Dena Grushkin, was the catalyst for change by fulfilling the Oba's (king) request to build Tomaro's first middle and high school with her nonprofit The Nigerian School Project (NSP).

The schools are publicly run and the students have earned government recognition for their academic achievements.

This June, Tomaro will celebrate its first high school graduation.

Two years ago, Dena asked me to help her document the schools' progress. We plan to complete “From Jersey, With Love” by filming the first graduation with a professional crew.

Filming Tomaro’s first graduation is key because this ceremony celebrates a decade of dedicated work. This year, the students, the island and Dena start their next chapter and this film will document where they have come from and more importantly where they now can go.

We are fundraising to complete "From Jersey, With Love." We are grateful the Swordspoint Foundation already committed to pay for our airfare. However, we need your help to cover:

1. Post-production (Editing technicians, rights clearances)

2. Film crew & Equipment (with on-ground production support)

3. Traveling (within Nigeria)

4. Publicity (and marketing)

5. Distribution (including submissions to film festivals)

Our labor of love.

We named our film "From Jersey, With Love" because The Nigerian School Project is a labor of love. And so is the production of our film.

So we need your support to finish it.

Thank you for sharing and thank you for contributing to our project.

Risks and challenges

As with many documentary films, "From Jersey, With Love" is truly a labor of love. Although this film is our primary project, we still have to juggle it with our respective jobs and personal responsibilities as it has not been a source of income for us.

Despite this, we have made steady progress on developing the project and believe in our team's ability to create a quality production.

We are extremely grateful for the Swordspoint Foundation's faith in our vision as demonstrated by their intial financial support. We are also extremely grateful for the time that our Lagos community and talented professionals have donated to support our work.

HOWEVER, in order to produce a high quality film that honors Tomaro's experiences, WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT.

As you may know, traveling to Nigeria - and to the Tomaro-Onisiwo Island - can be difficult because transportation and business in the nation offers its own unique challenges.

"In Nigeria," NSP scholarship recipient Ojo Suru David said, "you wake up every morning and the next thing you think about is how you’re going to meet your daily needs. So the challenge is not always being able to think ahead. You’re subjected to thinking about now."

Fortunately, Dena and I have wonderful friends and associates in Nigeria who always seek to welcome us like family and are just as invested in sharing Tomaro's story with the world.

From Dena's on-the-ground coordinator Andrew Duya to the students, we have trusted partners in Lagos who aid and share in our experiences.

We are also fortunate to continue working with two fantastic and dedicated Directors of Photography, John Chibuzor of Lagos and Neil Grabowsky of New Jersey.

We will communicate any challenges or changes in our production plan via our email list. Please sign up on our FaceBook Page @tonightatdawn.
