Welcome to the Kickstarter page of Cascade of Leaves' second project!
We are back, this time with far more experience, and with a newfound goal of continuing to release visual novels matching our vision for the foreseeable future. Our second game has been titled Winter's Symphonies.
Winter's Symphonies has already been in development on and off for half a year – it began around the time of the release of our first title, Anomie. As of writing this, the novel's word count is 50k, with the goal being around twice of that amount. Furthermore, the structure is mainly linear. It's possible we add a few bad endings and/or purely cosmetic choices, though. A ~10k word demo is available, simply click here, or on the project image above to be redirected to the download page!
This time, Leaf drew inspiration from titles such as Sakura no Uta, White Album 2, and Hatsuyuki Sakura. The former because of its powerful themes, and the latter two for the gorgeous winter atmospheres and emotion.
Tags/genres include, but are not limited to: Drama, Psychological, Philosophy, Atmosphere, Winter, Musical Themes, Slice of Life, Mystery, and Suspense.
“Winter never fails to bring surprises. Haven't you noticed, Sophie?”
“You uttered these words with such sincerity―it pained me to admit that I hadn't. Looking back, the symphonies of winter certainly do carry many connotations to me.”
―Sophie, protagonist of Winter's Symphonies
A regretful past, a confusing present, and an unclear future. After shutting the door to a life many would envy, the protagonist of the story, Sophie, returns to her one and only hometown. The town is just as she remembers it. She, however, is not. She can't help seeing herself as empty―as empty as the barren trees around her. One calling abandoned, with no clear path ahead: what is her true purpose in life, now that time has faded the malicious spell of vanity? Furthermore, how will she deal with crippling regret and guilt she carries?
When the wonderful symphonies of winter season sound over the city – as they do every year – will the powers of supposed miracle "fate" steer her life in a predetermined manner?

Hello! I'm Leaf.
Some of you may know me as LeafCascade – it's the name I go by on Reddit's /r/visualnovels. I'm the sole writer and project lead for Winter's Symphonies, as well as for my last project, Anomie. I'd consider myself a big visual novel fan, and if you would like to gawk upon my impeccable taste, you can do so here. :)
Looking back, a few months before the release Anomie, I had an epiphany of sorts (as ridiculous as it sounds). One day, I simply woke up, and realized that there was no way I was going to stop there. I don't know what the future has in store for me (books alongside of VNs, perhaps?), but writing has grown really close to my heart. I love exploring inner worlds that I create for myself, as well as the emotions and thoughts of my characters―which goes without saying, are ultimately all of my own.
Once my initial "crush" on VNs as a medium had faded, I suspect there "needed" to be longitivity. I would guess that my love for the medium turned into motivation for my own crafts. All that I do is out of love for writing and the medium itself!
I'd like to take a moment to make one thing clear: with or without Kickstarter, you'll see my VNs on Steam. This year, next year, the year after that, and hopefully, the year after that, too. What it will decide is the quality of the art, the amount of CGs, as well as the speed at which I put them out.
Do know that there's nothing that'd make me happier than you supporting me in my quest!

Risks and challenges
As with my last project as well, there is always a concern about not making the deadlines we set for ourselves. Anomie was supposed to release in April 2017, but ultimately, I didn't feel ready to release it until August that year.
I am not worried that this project won't be brought to completion (unless something awful happens to me, of course). Simply put: I am releasing Winter's Symphonies, and this time, probably ahead of the estimated date in the right column. Ultimately, it's just a question of when.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
