This project is a tribute to tiny but even more colorful corals: Zoanthus and Palythoas. 100 corals will be illustrated and put on a poster.
These little anemones exist in more than 300 color morphs. These anemones are easy to keep. So people keep them, breed them and even more important: share them. In between, there is a huge scene of zoa keepers who meet at events sharing their corals.
To distinguish the different color morphs, dealers invented funny sounding names for these little critters. Being traded by many dealers at a time, it can happen that the same coral appears with different names. It’s always interesting to find out, what’s the proper or even the most common name for a coral you just got.
I’m a passionate reefer and also a graphic designer. So I thought it’d be cool to illustrate zoas and put them on a poster. I don’t want to add a scientific value but a little fun, drawing 100 zoas & palys on a large poster.
You can participate!
Send me the name of your favorite zoa to firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll put it on the poster too. If I get more than 100, we could think about setting up a second one. The progress can be watched on my website: 100 Zoas & Palys. There is also an overview about which zoa has been illustrated yet and which ones are planned.
What you will get, when you support this project
- Illustrations of 100 Zoas & Palys on a
- fine art offset print in Din A1 59,4cm x 84,1cm on
- 300g satin coated paper
Now this kickstarter project is to get money for the initial print. I’ve to pay the printing house, the packaging and the people, who will organize the world wide shipping. I’m working with an experienced partner, who organizes the distribution. So there is no risk you won’t get your poster, supporting this project.
See here some more funky zoas!
Risks and challenges
We still have to figure out the best conditions for international shipping, but 15€ in EU should be ok.
There is a small risk, that the delivery can be delayed by some weeks, depending on the print house. July sould be the latest date, when we send out the first posters.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
