Tom Rush would like to stage the Grand Finale for his 50th year on stage with a return to Symphony Hall, Boston, on Friday, December 28

The Pitch

As the video clip tells you, as hard as it is for me to believe, this is my 50th year on stage, and I would really, really like to close it out with a bang. Symphony Hall in Boston has been the scene of some of the high points in those 50 years, and I’d love to go back there on Friday, December 28th for the Grand Finale. The Hall’s available, but what stands in the way is the cost of putting it together. I just don’t have it in the cookie jar, so I’m asking for your help in making this happen.

Now this is a bit audacious, and is uncharted territory for me. The conventional route is to get the funding from a conventional promoter, the middleman who gets between the artist and the audience and takes a big bite for his efforts (understandable, mind you, since the efforts and the investment are substantial). But I’m very much enjoying the way the internet is making it possible for artists to deal directly with folks that like the music, and thought I’d see if that could be extended to putting on a show. With your help, I think we can pull this off!

The Premiums

The simplest way to support this show is to just commit to buying tickets. These prices are actually less than what you will pay once the show is offered to the public. The Symphony Hall Box Office will add a $6.25 surcharge to each ticket once they start selling to the public. The advantage to getting onboard now is that you’ll get the best seats AND avoid that ticketing charge. We’ll keep track of when pledges came in and give you the very best seats available in your section, first come first served. Sooner is Better! (When Symphony Hall is set up “Cabaret Style” as it will be on 12/28, they take all the rows of seats out on the main floor and replace them with tables and chairs. It’s really quite magical, transforming one of the worlds finest concert halls into the most elegant club you can imagine!)

Premiums involving tickets to the show are in bold below, but if you’re not in striking distance of Boston and can’t come to the show, don’t despair—there are still plenty of ways to help out and get cool stuff! The show is just after Christmas, so think Holiday Shopping!

Kickstarter

I’m giving us 47 days, since that number seems to keep cropping up, ever since the Club 47 gave me my start 50 years ago. If we don’t reach our funding goal in that time You Won’t Be Charged Anything. If we do, then and only then will your credit card be debited. Thanks!

*There will be multiple video cameras running at this show. By being present you consent to being taped and/or broadcast as part of the audience, so don’t come with somebody else’s spouse, or if you do, wear a disguise. (Rules apply: Groucho Marx glasses are specifically prohibited—a room full of Grouchos would really mess up the video shoot.) Because of the video the audience will be lighted more brightly than usual, the better to capture your beautiful faces.

** For reasons known only to them, Symphony has sized the tables on the main floor to seat 5 each, which is sometimes awkward since audiences, like Noah’s animals, usually come in twos. The tables are bolted down, but the chairs are not, so if you and your honey are seated at adjacent tables, just move the chair over and join the other table. This is the routine and nobody minds, especially at the table you’re moving away from.
