SizeGenie was developed by Body-Cloud, a small team of geeks based in Switzerland, working on cutting-edge medical technology to help make people’s lives better. Our aim is to make technology accessible to everyone, and let normal people (like you and me) get the advantages that smart tech solutions can offer.
We found that one of the many technologies we were focusing on, 3D scanning (something currently available to companies, factories and big corporates, in a much bigger version) could be made smaller and tailored to solve some common problems that people have.
The challenge was making the technology cheap enough. We found a way to take the tech from big medical machines and put it into a simple, small and portable device, so that anyone can have a go and use it easily. And so, SizeGenie was born. See the technical specs below for more details on what components we plan to use.
We have been working on SizeGenie for quite a while, you can see below some of the earlier prototypes:
Why do I need it?
So what can normal people do with a portable 3D scanner? Well, we thought that it would be very useful to know our real, true, precise clothes size once and for all. It can also be used to monitor how our body changes over time (for example checking diet, gym or pregnancy progress).
Doesn’t it annoy you when fashion brands use their own sizing standards? For example I’m a 10 one place, and an eight somewhere else. And don’t get us started on S, M, L and similar generic sizes. There is no way you can get a perfectly fitting suit or dress unless you walk into a tailor shop to get a bespoke one, or bring them one you bought for alterations.
And we can't buy any clothes for some people because we didn’t know what their size was. Yes, we’re thinking of our wives, girlfriends, boyfriends husbands… and when we asked them they replied that they never know what size/fit/shape our ideal shirt really is... How cool would be to just click a button to get a size recommendation?
A device that could do this would save our time when we can’t go shopping, and would save time and money wasted on returns and refunds.
How it works
Watch SizeGenie in action!
Our patent pending system allows you to take accurate measurements in the privacy of your room, receive them and, once you log in to our website, see only the clothes that fit you.
We're already working with some designers, tailors and small retailers that will integrate a SizeGenie FIT ME button on their site. If you manage an online retailer and want to join, select the reward dedicated to you, or contact us at: email@example.com
Using the device is very easy:
- plug SizeGenie into your computer
- position it by the border of the desk like in the image below
- start the software
- step back until your body appears in the outline on screen
- stand facing the camera for a second
- turn left for a second
- turn with your back to the camera for a second
- turn left one more time.. and you're done!
- SizeGenie will now analyse your body cloud and calculate your precise measurements which will be delivered to you
- access your profile on our website will tell you what clothes size to buy for each brand
Why we need Kickstarter?
Well, first of all, innovation isn’t cheap, especially when you’re trying to make technology smaller and more accessible. Remember the first computers? They used to occupy entire rooms! Unfortunately we don’t have funds to mass produce the device just yet.
Secondly, we want to make it super easy to get the size recommendation for every brand via our website. So if you have a SizeGenie you can tell us what brand you would like to buy, measure yourself (so the measurements are up-to-date) and we give you a recommended size. Never double order, try on, send back. The integration with existing size databases requires money (circa 20% of our budget) and time for our developers.
We’ll spend the money we raise this way:
- 20% fee to size databases and integration onto our website
- 60% production of the device - with our production partners
- 10% cost of accessory production, plus delivery fees
- 5% website creation, measurement software coding, servers
- 5% Kickstarter fee
We have already finalised the design of the device - we made it foldable and small so it’s portable (for when you want to lend it to friends and family members) and easy to set up.

Amazing! When do I get it?
We have a specific plan for production and a timeline that should give you a SizeGenie by May 2016
If you are the manager of a major online shopping site, we want to talk to you! There are a lot of things we could do together, to provide the right size to your customers, and minimize returns and refunds. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org

Risks and challenges
We want to make the way you shop for clothes and fashion items online easy, efficient and just a more pleasurable experience.
Once we start the production of the SizeGenie, we plan to involve online retailers and e-commerce companies. They will be asked to provide the exact sizing for each item of clothing they sell, if not already in the databases we have. We need to demonstrate that there’s a large number of consumers who would feel more comfortable buying for themselves and others online if they knew in advance what fits them, rather than taking their chances with “standard” sizes like S, M, L or 8, 10, 12, when these often mean something different for each brand.
We have already approached many designers and outlets, and received early interest in the device and the website. We need to make enough noise so that the top brands get on board to help make the shopping experience seamless. Just like us, as consumers, are frustrated with the returns and refunds process, the retailers also suffer from the resource and cost required to manage the process and the effects it has on managing stock inventory. So we’re confident that they will sit up and listen to this solution to everyone’s problem.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
