A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
DECCO the Toddler Monitor is the next stage of baby monitor!
Cute and friendly, DECCO is a motion sensor device designed to alert parents if their toddler has left their bedroom or other safe space, and is on the move.
We were inspired to create this device when one of our kids left the house undetected in the middle of the night. We discovered there was nothing on the market to help parents monitor their toddlers after they outgrow their baby monitor.
After speaking with friends and conducting market research it became clear that there was a strong demand for a simple, reliable, and travel friendly solution to this problem. DECCO the Toddler Monitor is exactly that, and we are excited to be sharing it with you through this campaign!
Through our market research, we uncovered a strong interest in this type of product from parents and caregivers of children with special needs such as Autism and Down Syndrome.
We are excited to be partnered with Changing the Face of Beauty, an organization that encourages the integration of individuals with disabilities into general advertising and the media. We will be donating $2 per unit sold on Kickstarter to Changing the Face of Beauty to support them in their continued efforts in the United States and Canada.
Download the Toddler Monitor app from the App Store or Google Play and follow the instructions. Once paired to your phone it is as easy as:
DECCO the Toddler Monitor pairs via Bluetooth with an iOS or Android phone. Through the user-friendly app, you will receive alerts about detected motion, connectivity, and battery status.
Toddler Monitor will enable you to enjoy the peace of mind knowing your toddler is safe in a:
Friend's or family member's home
Like many of you, we are inspired by our children; meet Dec and Coop.
We invented Toddler Monitor because we needed it for our families. We worried about traveling with our kids to places with pools or lakes, leaving our kids with family members, and were constantly checking to make sure our kids were safe in their beds. Our vision is:
We want to keep kids safe, and we know we can do this by making Toddler Monitor available to families just like us. We started this journey over a year ago and have put our hearts, souls, time and money into making Toddler Monitor a reality.
For the last year, we have worked to complete product design, engineering and manufacturing setup with minimal funding but now we need your help to bring Toddler Monitor to life!
Initially, we worked to create our proof of concept and show how we believed the Toddler Monitor should work. We also talked a lot about how we wanted our product to look; we knew we wanted it to be fun and friendly, we also knew we wanted him to be durable and made of a soft material.
Once we understood our requirements, we engaged Design1st, an Ottawa based firm that supports the design process from concept through to manufacturing and commercialization. We traveled to meet them in September to kick-off the project and have been working with them ever since to understand the user experience, create DECCO and the app.
We now have a working prototype and app, that we are continuing to refine. With your support, we will be able to fund and manufacture our first run of product and get it into the hands of families all over North America! We plan to travel to China this summer to visit the factory and see the first run of DECCOs and ensure that it meets our exact specifications.

We have been so thankful for the support that has brought us to this point. Thank you to all of our team members and partners!
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge we have ahead will be setting up manufacturing, and the logistics of importing and shipping. We have engaged a company that has worked in this space and is providing us support to ensure we have the benefits of other people's previous experience. The individual who is supporting us has over 30 years of experience in manufacturing products and helping to import them and we are lucky to be working with him!
Our biggest challenges can be solved by working with great people, but that requires money, and that is where this campaign comes into play!
