Somewhere in Northeastern Pennsylvania, nestled between the forests and foothills of the Poconos, you’ll find the forgotten town of Moon Hill. It’s a surreal place of arcane magic and natural wonder, where a hint of autumn lingers in the air, the leaves are always turning, and the shadows grow long no matter the time of day.
You might say Moon Hill is special, a pocket of Americana frozen in time, filled with eccentric characters and deathly secrets that transcend dimensions. And like most small towns, it also has a dark side.
We’d like to show it to you.
GREETINGS FROM MOON HILL is a collection of dark stories by horror author Anthony J. Rapino, set in and around the fictional town of Moon Hill, Pennsylvania.
Precipice Books wants to offer a limited edition hardcover of this collection, all signed and numbered by Anthony J. Rapino. That’s not all, though. See, Mr. Rapino is also an accomplished sculptor, having produced a number of horror-themed items for his shop, Candy Corn Apocalypse.
When we teamed up with Mr. Rapino to discuss the prospect of releasing a hardcover collection of his Moon Hill stories, one question was asked: What if we could find a way to package the book with custom Moon Hill sculptures? And so this campaign was born. We’ve spent the last year working closely with Tony to develop his Moon Hill mythos in preparation for publication, and now we’re ready to announce it to the world.
GREETINGS FROM MOON HILL is approximately 85k words long and has just gone through its final stage of edits. We’re looking for backing to cover the various costs of production, printing, logistics, and the supplies necessary for Tony to create his Moon Hill sculptures for the various backer rewards.
We produced a similar project in 2014 with Todd Keisling’s hardcover collection, UGLY LITTLE THINGS: VOLUME ONE, and we’re aiming to expand our horizons with Mr. Rapino’s work. We’ve put our faith in this project, and we hope you will, too!

Fans of Rapino’s fiction will find some familiar stories in these pages, many of which were previously released digitally in his collection, Welcome to Moon Hill. All of these stories have been revised, and in some cases, completely rewritten to provide a more cohesive experience for the reader.
However, Mr. Rapino also wrote new content exclusive to this collection, including the unsettling tales “The Topsy-Turvy Man” and “Halloween on the Hill.” Perhaps the biggest inclusions are “Reality Engineers,” a novella that was previously only available in audio book form from In Ear Entertainment, and the first three chapters of Rapino’s forthcoming novel, “The Shadows of Flies.”
The full table of contents is as follows:
- The Topsy-Turvy Man (1)
- Halloween on the Hill
- Alone in the Forest
- The Box of Forever
- Camera Obscura
- Surreal Botany
- From Your Body They Rise
- Hair of the Dog
- Morning Espresso at the Church of Me
- The Interview
- What I Am
- And the Drums Went Thump-Thump-Thump
- Loosely Enforced Rules
- As the Crow Flies
- Mail Call
- No Touching at All
- Passing the Buck
- We Two Nameless
- The Plumber
- Struck by Golden Lightning
- From the Moon Hill Archives: Moon Hill Pumpkin Ale Recipe
- Just Once More, Little Sister
- The Topsy-Turvy Man (2)
- Reality Engineers
- The Shadows of Flies (Excerpt)
“Anthony Rapino’s work is uniquely infused with horror and a type of childlike innocence that makes the darkness that much darker. Greetings from Moon Hill invites you to a place that is both tragic and extraordinary. Once you enter, you’ll never be allowed to leave.” – Mercedes M. Yardley, Bram Stoker Award-nominated author of Little Dead Red and Pretty Little Dead Girls
“Anthony Rapino's collection Greetings from Moon Hill is his best work so far. Don't miss these fascinating and scary stories from a master of the craft.” – Kate Jonez, Bram Stoker and Shirley Jackson Award-nominated author of Ceremony of Flies and Candy House
"Want thrilling, scary, moody stories that put you on edge and play with your emotions? Well if you're looking for that and you're looking for an experience rather than just entertainment, one author comes immediately to my mind and that author is Anthony Rapino." – Benjamin Kane Ethridge, award-winning author of Black & Orange and Divine Scream
“In Greetings from Moon Hill, Anthony Rapino is at times a sorcerer, and other times a madman. His work is both that of a puppeteer and a sadist. He tends to detail much like a chef, as he parses imagery throughout his work morsel by morsel, which we ravenously consume until we realize that with his fiction, actually it is us that are being consumed.” – Eryk Pruitt, author of Dirtbags and Hashtag
“Greetings from Moon Hill […] displays Rapino’s range, which is vast and varied, yet unique, and always dark as well as entertaining. With effortless grace and ease, and weaved like a seasoned professional, this collection proves that Rapino’s career is destined to be a long and fruitful one. I cannot think of a higher compliment.” – Ben Eads, author of Cracked Sky
“Anthony Rapino is the kind of writer I seek out in the quiet moments, when I am reading for myself and not for a deadline. He crafts charismatic & off-kilter characters with a wonderful small town mentality. And as small towns go, Moon Hill is draped in shadows and as quirky as they come. A definite Charles L. Grant glow illuminates between the pages of a Rapino yarn. It's a curio I've been missing since Grant's passing.” – Zakk Walters, The Eyes of Madness
“A master at the art of tale-spinning, Anthony Rapino infuses a sense of creeping dread that immediately entrances and bewilders. To enter his world is to become unsettlingly accustomed to those tales that exist in the shadows." – Mary Rajotte, Bloody Bookish
"Rapino is one of modern horror's most engaging and unique voices, graced with a lyrical style and a lucid imagination that can render even the most ephemeral feelings and thoughts in lingering images and stirring characters that leap off the page and into your mind. Make sure you secure your ticket to Moon Hill early, and clear your schedules." - Troy Blackford, author of Critical Incident and For Those With Eyes to See

Precipice Books is a small digital press that got its start somewhat unintentionally following a successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2010. And by small, I mean miniscule, with just three people working behind the scenes.
Those people are: Todd Keisling (that’s me!), Erica Keisling (Art Director), and Amelia Bennett (Lead Editor). I started Precipice when my first Kickstarter campaign was funded, and over the years it’s become an independent vehicle for my own work. After several successful releases, we’re ready to expand our horizons with this new project. This is where Anthony Rapino comes into the picture.
Anthony J. Rapino is a horror writer and sculptor. He’s also a teacher, and somehow that makes more sense than it should. He spends his days among people and things that demand shaping: Words, clay, or minds, it amounts to the same job.
We met several years ago on the book promotion circuit (e.g. Twitter), and have become good friends. I asked if he’d like to be a test subject for a new publishing venture, and to my surprise, he said yes. The rest is history, folks.
Risks and challenges
Although this is only our second crowdfunding effort, our first was successful, and is actually how Precipice Books got its start. We’re familiar with the commitment and resolve required to see a campaign through to its conclusion, ensuring that backers receive the rewards to which they are entitled. We’re also well-acquainted with the steps to publication, having produced and published several titles in prior years.
The book itself is already near the end of the editing cycle, after which it will be prepped for layout and final design. Provided there are no unexpected circumstances (delayed shipments or misprinted dust jackets, for example), we are on track to meet our publication target of October 2016.
From the sculpture side of things, there’s always a slight risk that a mold won’t come out right the first time, or a sculpture breaks before a mold can be created. Fortunately, these aren’t the first sculptures Tony has created and mass-produced, so he is familiar with taking the necessary precautions. Other aspects of reward fulfillment carry a number of challenges, as they involve different moving parts, such as ordering supplies from various manufacturers (like the vials, for example).
In both respects, we’re comfortable with our respective mediums and committed to seeing this project through to completion. Unless we die. Even then, we doubt that would stop us.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
