The Story

Catastrophe! The Grand Museum of Art may have to close forever! The Museum Director just jumped ship, leaving behind an enormous hidden deficit

It’s up to you and your fellow curators to increase visitor attendance and keep the museum running. To do this, you must present grandiose exhibitions that will attract crowds of visitors and fill the museum coffers to save the institution from financial ruin.

The curator with the most popular exhibitions will become the new Museum Director!

How do you play?

The goal of the game is to earn as many popularity points as possible by collecting works of art and showcasing them in thematic exhibitions.

There are 2 ways to earn popularity points:

1. Collect Artwork cards and earn the number of popularity points indicated at the bottom of each card.

2. Complete Exhibition cards to collect the number of popularity points attributed to each exhibition. To earn points from an Exhibition card, the player must collect all of the artwork featured on said Exhibition card. There are 20 Exhibition cards and you can check out the list of exhibition categories.

Read the complete rules and discover the board's tiles.

What's the tricky part?

Some artwork can appear on more than one Exhibition card, so you won’t be the only curator looking for it. Sometimes, you’ll have to:

- Make exchanges
- Participate at auctions
- Steal!

How far will you go...
How far will you go...

And since the life of a curator is not always easy, you may also:

- Pick chance cards (yay!)
- Pick misfortune cards (not so good)
- Protect yourself with insurance cards (phew!)

Are there trivia questions?

Yes, there are trivia questions in the game, but don’t worry: you don’t have to be a fine art expert to play!

When you land on an Art Dealer square, you get to select the artwork of your choice from the deck (it's really fun!) But first, you must answer either a smart or a silly art trivia question:

- Smart questions are more serious and target the art savvy.
- Silly questions are for people who don’t know much about art history and want to have a good laugh.

Trivia questions and answers come in an artfully designed, user-friendly booklet.

When does the game end?

After the last Artwork card has been picked from the deck, you have 5 rounds to complete your exhibitions and gather as many popularity points as you can. After the final 5 rounds of play, curators tally up the points from their completed exhibitions and artwork collected.

The curator with the most points wins the game and becomes the new Museum Director!

Who are we?

Today Is Art Day started in 2014 as a social media feed on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Everyday, its founder David Beaulieu shares a fun story about an artwork or an artist to make art history more accessible. More than 80,000 followers are part of Today Is Art Day's community.

For the past 2 years, Today Is Art Day has become famous by introducing the Art History Heroes, its collection of famous artist action figures. The company has successfully funded 4 Kickstarter campaigns in the past for the following artists:

- Vincent van Gogh
- Frida Kahlo
- Leonardo da Vinci, Vermeer & Rembrandt
- Salvador Dali

Since then, the collection grew with the addition of René Magritte, Claude Monet and Gustav Klimt. You can now find these in more than 40 museum stores in the US and Europe including the Met, the National Gallery of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, SFMOMA, the Rembrandthuis and many more. A success made possible by Kickstarter!

Risks and challenges

The main risks we may encounter are delays in production or in shipping.

This is our 5th Kickstarter campaign! We have always shipped and fulfilled our previous projects and we take great pride in offering quality products.

As you can see in the photos, we already have a high-quality prototype in hand. This means that all the design, copy, molds and materials have already been produced in our prototyping phase. We have tested this prototype and we are now ready for production.

The only thing missing is the funding to go into mass production. Everything else is lined up and ready!
