A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
THE OLD MASTERS EXPANSION
Some of you might recall our previous Vincent van Gogh and Frida Kahlo Kickstarter campaigns. Now, we are ready to expand our Art History Heroes collection with the addition of not 1, not 2... but 3 action figures. We call it The Old Masters Expansion.
Say hello to our new (old) friends:
Leonardo da Vinci
Our action figures share these elements:
They are 5'' tall
Made of high-quality PVC (plastic)
Includes one mini-easel and 4 to 5 masterpieces that can be cut out from a cardboard insert
Comes in a well-designed box that displays 10 educational and interesting facts
Manufactured in China with the collaboration of Symbiote Studios, our toy manufacturer established in the USA since 2007
With such a big expansion, we need your support!
Leonardo da Vinci
Glow-in-the-dark hair, beard and eyebrows
Fun accessories: book and feather
Masterpieces included: Mona Lisa, Lady with an Ermine, Annunciation, Virgin on the Rocks, The Last Supper.
Includes a pair of pearl earrings (synthetic pearls, made out of shells, 8 MM size)
Signature pearl earring in his hand
Paintbrush and pallet
Masterpieces included: Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Astronomer, The Milkmaid, Art of Painting.
Customisable facial expressions based on his famous self-portraits
Three sets of eyebrows and mouths (smiling, surprised, serious)
Masterpieces included: The Night Watch, Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp, The Return of the Prodigal Son, Self-Portrait.
Each figure is packed individually. We display 10 interesting facts about the artist on the back. You can also see the masterpieces included in the box.
Now that we've reached our goal, we are happy to introduce stretch goals!
If we reach $60,000, we will include a little base with pin to all three action figures. This will help them keep their balance. We will also look into making another version of the base (without pin) for Van Gogh and Frida Kahlo available on our store ($) later on. Stay tuned.
1.2 Vitruvian Man Parchment
If we reach $80,000, we will add a small parchment accessory for Leonardo with a tiny print of the Vitruvian Man on it.
If we reach $100,000, we will add a feather to Vermeer's hat. It will be a "real synthetic" feather and not a plastic feather. :)
So far, we have created an action figure design, built a prototype, selected a production company, and identified a worldwide shipping partner. The following steps lie ahead:
Mass production of the action figures
Fulfillment and shipping
The last steps of this project are not cheap. This is why we need the support of the community to help us make it a reality.
HOW WILL THE MONEY BE SPENT?
The money will be used to cover the following costs:
Design and prototype (10%)
Molds (10%) Production (45%) Fulfillment and shipping (20%) Marketing and promotion (5%) Kickstarter fee (10%)
Value Added Tax (VAT) not included. Pictures based on prototype. Final product may differ from images. 2D Design by Isabela Magno Seabra - www.isabelaseabra.com.br
WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD. Small parts. This is not a toy. It is not designed nor intended for, children under the age of 12.
Risks and challenges
With this type of project, the following risks are important to consider:
- Equipment failure
- Delays in production
- Delays in shipping
In order to minimize these risks, we invested a great deal of time in identifying the best providers on the market.
We have partnered with Symbiote Studios, who has been in the toy manufacturing industry since 2007. Apart from being great to work with, they have offices in the US, and close to their factory in China to ensure high quality.
We’ve also partnered with ShipMonk for fulfillment and shipping worldwide. They specialize in backer rewards and fulfilling orders for crowdfunded campaigns on Kickstarter. They make complicated processes very smooth and easy.
Everything is in place. Now we just need your support to cover the costs of running the first batch of action figures.
Includes 3 sets of eyebrows and mouths to customize his facial expressions based on his famous self-portraits, stick, removable beret and 4 masterpieces (The Night Watch, Self-Portrait, Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp, The Return of the Prodigal Son).
