A book about cooking for families. Not a book just for kids, nor just adults, but for both together.

I tried a million ways to get Soleil to try new foods, eat what was in front of her, and stop saying she doesn't like something before ever having tried it.
And then we came upon this way of planning, preparing, and eating meals that not only eliminates those problems, but actually gets her excited about dinner.
Just to get it out in the open: we've never created a cookbook before. But we've used so many, studied them meticulously, and noticed that none work for all of us together. (See below for how we've overcome any risks and challenges.) There are cutesy cookbooks for kids that show you how to make sloppy joes, but don't create any appreciation for food. And there are cookbooks for adults that show you how to make eggs benedict using 30 ingredients, but are difficult and frustrating, even for adults sometimes. And no one really talks about doing the whole process with your kids, including having them write lists, deciding on the menu, and setting the table.
When you give kids ownership over what they're going to eat, they'll eat anything.
Soleil's Table gives you the tools to make meals the best part of your day, enables your kids to appreciate food, and brings everyone together around the planning, making, and eating of a meal.
If you've faced these issues, you'll love this book. If you already do this as a family, you'll like the recipes and I bet you know someone who would like learning what you know.
"People always ask how my son is such a good eater and I say it's because he is involved in the cooking." – Mom
"I wish my parents had involved me like this when I was a kid." – Father
"I can't wait to do this with my grandkids. I never had anything like this with my own children." – Grandma
There are three parts to this book.
1. The Process
A step-by-step guide to take you from planning the meal together to eating it. Kids and adults collaborate to bring it all together.
2. The Meal
Serving. Food as Art. Courses. Three components that bring your meal from normal to amazing.
3. The Food
Appetizers, vegetables, main courses, and desserts.
Who we are
It's not just cookbooks that are only designed for either kids or adults. Over the last decade, I (Mark) worked at design firms, helping some of the biggest U.S. and international companies to figure out "what's next." For adults. But we spend so much time together as families and almost nothing is designed for everyone together. If adults do something their kids want to do (ex. going to a restaurant that rhymes with bucky sneezes), or vice versa (ex. going to some snooty restaurant), someone is always sacrificing and sort of miserable. So we decided to change that. We started a new company, Toad & Tadpole, to enable families to come together around shared experiences. This book is the first offering we have completed and we have several more in the works.

We also want to do more with Soleil's Table, but we have to make this book successful first. We want to create a community of people who are connecting with their kids over food. We want to create more books with your ideas. We want to make a fancy restaurant for families. We want to do other things that I'm not thinking of right now.
We're looking to make a first run of these books. All proceeds will go towards making them. Costs included to get this to you:
Design, writing, photography
Risks and challenges
We have completed the book. We've given it to people to test the recipes and the process. It all works. We've had a few printed to make sure they look like we want them to, i.e., awesome. That book Soleil is holding in the photo and video? That's the real printed version. We've calculated all the costs and included them in our goal. We've talked to several printing companies and found the best one. They're ready to go once we hit our goal. There really aren't any risks or challenges that we haven't planned for. Sure, there could be printer delays. but we've incorporated that into the timing of delivery. I've proofread this campaign a million times.
We've totally overthought this.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
