Can you think like a genius while acting like a dummy? This twist on trivia will test your skills!
Trivia + Funny Mental Distractions + Vampires + Zombies + Killer Robots + Planet of the apes = Survival of the Dummies
We think our game is perfect for parties, family game nights, or team building at work or school because it encourages laughter and teamwork. We want to share this game with others and by backing this project we can make that happen!
Meet the Creators (Video #2)
Listen to our interview on the Getting Geeky with Gamer Leaf Podcast:
NOTE: If this project looks familiar, it should. We are re-launching the Survival of the Dummies trivia party game in what we call an "Essential Pack". It doesn't have as many questions nor does it include the sand timer, but it has the same experience. Why are we offering this version? Our first campaign required us to reach a lofty goal due to the minimums of most manufacturers with 500 units. With this version, we don't have to do that so we can offer it to a smaller audience and get the game in their hands in the next month or so instead of January of next year.
The year is 2040. Zombies, sky net terminators, vampires and intelligent apes have taken over. Humans were forced to leave and colonize Mars. However, only the smartest and most talented were chosen for evacuation. If you're reading or listening to this game description . . . you are not one of those people.
Luckily for you, the smart people on Mars are bored. Underachievers, like you, are now free entertainment on a game show and in exchange, you get a chance to escape Earth!
Two teams answer questions in pop culture, history, random facts, geography, music, science, movies and critical thinking, while distracted by funny, hard or downright annoying rules.
The winning team escapes Earth and has bragging rights as being above average dummies.
Step 1. Follow the goofy instructions.
Step 2. Try not to get distracted as you answer questions that go from sorta EASY to sorta HARD.
Step 3. If you fail to perform the DUMMY-ISMs or answer questions incorrectly, your team pulls a DUMMY-Trap card!
(DUMMY-TRAP cards are like a box of chocolates but someone ate most of the good ones. You never know what you're gonna get, but it's usually something you won't like).
All the essentials are in the box! You’ll just need a timer on your phone and some scratch paper and some pens/pencils.
*Box, cards and Artwork Subject to minor design changes for manufacturing
Even if you get the answers right, you’re still going to look like a dummy.
Multi-tasking and DUMMY-ISMS
Almost everyone can do two things at once, but the human brain is most efficient when it can focus on one task at a time.
Survival of the Dummies makes you perform actions that have nothing to do with the trivia questions simply to make you look silly and to confuse your brain. We call these mental distractions “DUMMY-ISMS.”
Each question card has a different DUMMY-ISM and your team must follow these instructions while answering the questions. That is why we call it trivia with a twist.
The DummyTrap cards in Survival of the Dummies are similar to “Chance” cards in Monopoly. They add a random dynamic to the game that will help your team in some cases, but most times they are small penalties when the Dummy-ism instructions are not followed or your team gets questions incorrect.
Trivia for all
Survival of the Dummies encourages, and in some cases, demands that your team be as diverse as possible in their age, experiences, hobbies, and skills.
There are more than 200 questions and they range from pop culture, sports, movies, music, geography, math, science, critical thinking, and history. You’ll rely on your team and your team will rely on you.
We came up with the idea for the game during a trip for a family reunion. During reunions or other group events, we're always looking for a game that's fun and works well with a big group without it being too complicated.
Trivia is something that pretty much everyone understands, but there are many trivia games and repeatedly answering questions isn't always fun if you don't know all the answers.
The games we enjoy most are ones where everyone is laughing and enjoying themselves regardless of who is winning or losing. Survival of the Dummies is that type of game. Even if you don’t know the answer you can be entertained by your friends and family while they follow the silly instructions on the cards. Survival of the Dummies is about laughter and exercising your brain at the same time, and with your help, we can share that experience with others.
These are the rewards you're looking for. (Star Wars reference...Check). Review the different rewards to see which one best works for you.
All reward levels include the game and their choice of tuck box color (purple or black)
The "Survival" game chip is just like a casino chip or coin, but even better! Why? Because our chip has NO cash value. Flip this chip to impartially resolve disputes between teams or to determine who goes first within the game. This chip has been inspected for honesty and integrity.
In Survival of the Dummies, your team captain is called the "Designated Dummy". Use these wrist bands so you can keep track of your captain. Some Question Cards in the game specify the Designated Dummy do all the work!
Custom 50 sheet note pads come in handy when a question card says "You can only use NON verbal communication," or you encounter a difficult question. These notepads will be printed with the Survival of the Dummies logo and the inspirational quote "You don't have to be smart, just smarter than the dummy next to you." Stay confident and you'll make it to Mars!
Want your very own one of a kind game tuck box? You got it.
(Only up to 10 backers.)
We’ve invested over a year of work that began in mid 2017. At this stage, we have all the question cards completed, all the DummyTrap cards completed, the instruction card completed. Our previous campaign had a different box so we had to redesigned for this version of the game. We are getting samples. For an overview, see the timeline below.
Unlike our previous campaign, the money allocation is very simple so there is no need to include any charts or graphs. At our low funding goal, all the money will go to manufacturing the game and shipping them to you. The rest will go to kickstarter fees taxes.
Who are you and why should I give you dummies money?
Good question. Jeremiah and Tekeilla are analytical creatives that some might call left-right brain individuals. Jeremiah is the meticulous planner that loves the technical while Tekeilla is the free spirit that leans toward the abstract. We each bring different skills to the table and together we form a dynamic dummy duo.
Our business, TNJ UHANE, LLC is a simple husband and wife team. The “T” is for the wife Tekeilla. The “J” is for the husband Jeremiah. Uhane (oo - hah - neh) is the Hawaiian word for Spirit.

Risks and challenges
Bringing a new product to market, even something as “simple” as a trivia based party game has its challenges. We have put in over a year of work up front to develop and test the game even before launching on Kickstarter. This will allow us to focus on the manufacturing and delivery process since we have the major game components complete.
Our biggest challenge is making sure manufacturers produce a quality product within our expected delivery dates and then shipping the game to each person that pledged. To reduce some risk, we are selecting manufacturers that have a great track record with kickstarter games. We want to make this a great experience for our backers.
If anything changes, we will keep our backers informed, because we can't succeed without your help.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
