Welcome to the Kickstarter campaign for The Atomic Thunderbolt #3!
After a bit of a hiatus… WE’RE BACK!
Hey everyone! It’s been a minute, but we’re back in action! After the second issue, The Atomic Thunderbolt took a bit of an extended hiatus… in fact, all of TJ Comics did. Nothing serious, nothing bad… life just happened to get in the way and I needed to re-examine some things from a creative standpoint. But we’re back on track and can report, The Atomic Thunderbolt #3 is DONE and The Atomic Thunderbolt #4 is already in production!
And that's why we're here, to send The Atomic Thunderbolt #3 to the printers and then to YOU! We're also looking to speed up production on issue #4!
I’m IPPY Award winning writer Kevin Powers, and I’m teaming up with artist Rowel Roque and IPPY Award winning colorist Donna Gregory to continue the revival of the greatest one-hit wonder in comic book history – The Atomic Thunderbolt.
The Atomic Thunderbolt came after the height of the early-1940s superhero craze. The war was over, the Cold War had yet to begin and many superhero comics had begun to cease publication while the precursors of Marvel and DC continued to evolve. The atomic age hero made his first and only appearance in “The Atomic Thunderbolt #1” in 1946.
Featured in two stories – one detailing the character’s origin and the other in a slapstick tale with two aloof scientists – The Atomic Thunderbolt disappeared and was never seen again in mainstream comics. In the 72 years since his initial publication by the Regor Company, The Atomic Thunderbolt has achieved a cult status among Golden Age and Public Domain superhero enthusiasts. I discovered him doing research for my superhero series "ExtraOrdinary" and have been fascinated ever since.
The first issue of our revival of The Atomic Thunderbolt served as a homage and direct sequel to the original. We included a reprint of the original stories to allow readers to connect the dots and see how we honored the source material.
In our first chapter, Former OSS – and soon to be CIA Officer – Jay McPherson tracks down our hero who has recently been spotted all over New York City. Staging a bank robbery, McPherson confronts The Atomic Thunderbolt and extends him an offer to make a real difference.
In our second chapter, working with McPherson and a covert squad of commandos, The Atomic Thunderbolt has been tasked with taking out pockets of Nazi resistance that have access to secret super-weapons and hope to restart the war.
Unbeknownst to our hero, the Nazis are being coordinated and led by a mysterious man known as The Baron, whose fate is uniquely intertwined with The Atomic Thunderbolt. While taking down the leftover Nazi war machine, our hero discovers a dark secret that McPherson – and the U.S. Government – has kept tightly under wraps.
The third chapter picks up moments after the second ends. The Atomic Thunderbolt wants answers for the shocking secret he’s stumbled upon. What he learns from McPherson is the truth about what happened to America’s superhumans and the Nazi superhuman known as The Baron. After learning about the villain's origin, the Atomic Thunderbolt leads an all-out assault on the evil-doer's compound that results in the most shocking twist of the series!
The third issue is COMPLETE and ready to be sent to the printers!
The Atomic Thunderbolt #1 is 50 pages and features 30 pages of our original story, PLUS reprints of The Atomic Thunderbolt's first and only appearances.
The Atomic Thunderbolt #2 and #3 are both 28 pages of full-color action!

Here's a look at the perks you'll get as a print backer! These are designed as perks for print backers because they fit neatly inside the book! However, digital backers can still get these if you want them, just let me know when the campaign ends.
We've got 3 items... a 6 x 9 cover print (this goes with the prints from the previous two campaigns), a sticker of the updated Atomic Thunderbolt logo, and my personal favorite... a homage to the classic DC Comics Cosmic Cards. The Exclusive Retro Trading Card is exclusive to the Kickstarter and is true trading card size. This will actually be the first in a series and they will all be designed to look like those beloved cards. I haven't finalized the back design yet, but I'll share it as soon as I do!

The Atomic Thunderbolt is also tied into TJ Comics growing superhero universe explored in ExtraOrdinary. Offered as one of our rewards, ExtraOrdinary follows The Challenger and how the modern world reacts to the appearance of what many believe to be the world's first superhero. ExtraOrdinary Vol. 1 collects the first FOUR chapters of ExtraOrdinary, clocking in at 90 pages of story!

Risks and challenges
There are always risks that come with campaigns. First and foremost, if we don't get funded, we will retool and try again, just as we have in the past.
Of course, life happens and that may cause delays with deadlines or shipping rewards, but we're committed to creating a really great story together.
I'm very big about transparency with Kickstarters and I won't BS you of something comes up that may hinder production.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
