WHAT THIS IS?
A movie based on true stories: Charlie Villanueva has always been a champion. Winning state championships while attending Blair Academy in High School then later winning the NCAA Final Four championship during his freshmen year at the University of Connecticut. He was drafted 7th overall in 2005 by the Toronto Raptors. Year 1 in the NBA, Charlie was traded from the Raptors to the Milwaukee Bucks after being named runner up for the 'Rookie of the Year' award. A roller-coaster ride of adversity with high expectations and disappointment began...4 teams and 9 coaches in 10 years. And to add, it took 10 years for Charlie to make the playoffs. Though each year had its ups and downs, Charlie has always remained the same inspirational hero to the lives that matters to him most, which he calls “Charlie’s Angels". Bullied throughout his childhood, in the streets of New York City, Charlie used the sport of basketball as a way to escape from the autoimmune disease Alopecia Areata, which he was diagnosed at the age of 10. Charlie is the only player in NBA history to have this condition and this is a story of perseverance and commitment. The basketball doesn't always go in on-the-court but off-the-court Charlie has proven himself to be a chosen winner.
Community Initiative: Please note, we have a partnership with The National Alopecia Areata Foundation and a portion of the proceeds (based on our distribution deal) will get proudly donated to them.
HOW TO GET THIS DONE?
We believe and 100% know Charlie has a very unique story to share, not only in the Alopecia community, but around the globe. "Inspiration and motivation may come from others, but true inspiration comes from within." -- Catherine Pulsifer Most basketball stories have been told, but Charlie's admiration to helping those dealing with bullying.. comes within. He was bullied as kid growing up in the streets of New York City but found his calling via the game of basketball and now is an inspiration and role model to thousands also facing what he faced. We (Rob & Rob...his brothers) are looking to finish what we first started - to tell a story we know best personally, real insights, intriguing points of view. We need funding to complete this film. Funding to be used: pre/post production (editing), mastering, color correction, audio/sound, operations and travel cost, re-shoot specific scenes, shoot new scenes (i.e. interview certain families dealing with alopecia at home), etc.
Risks and challenges
When we first thought about this film concept, years back, we began shooting with our camera phones then upgraded to GoPro cams. And earlier this year starting shooting with an older Canon T3...which is good for online videos, but not for high film quality. We got tons of videos, some that are still usable. We have about 10-15 minutes is actual usable footage we're planning on using and have a long way to go still. We don't have the man power, nor the budget to complete the production in a professional matter without YOUR HELP!
