A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
Computer Vision Syndrome
Many of us lay our eyes on a computer screen for at least 7 hours a day.
In an era when the hours we use our digital devices only increases, so does the development of our eye discomfort and vision-related health problems. The most common symptoms of the “Computer Vision Syndrome” or “Digital Eye Strain” many of us suffer from due to the high visual demands of computer work are:
What makes it even worse is that when we get home, most of us continue to use our tablets to browse the internet, watch TV, or use our laptops to continue to do some more work. All of this after a long day of computer use at the office!
If we ignore the cause, the problems could continue to recur and perhaps intensify, which may lead to:
Increased error rate
Why Sight Cue?
You may be well aware of these problems or you may be experiencing them frequently. You’ve probably even heard of some preventive vision care actions you can take. For example, two of the essential steps are to:
keep proper distance from the computer screen; and
take timely breaks
These steps are actually very easy to perform. However, the REAL difficulty lies in remembering to perform them in a repetitive and timely manner. We’re usually too absorbed in our work to do so and besides, it would be much more productive for us to free up our minds for more complex tasks instead.
Sight Cue can be that personal assistant you need to alert you on time without being distracting.
What are the benefits?
How does it work?
When you’re too concentrated on your work and unintentionally lean forward, Sight Cue uses range-sensing technology to detect if you’re too close to the screen and prompts you to move away. When you need to refocus your eyes on a distant object, Sight Cue lets you know. When it’s time for a break, Sight Cue notifies you so you can stretch, drink some water, and relax your eyes for a while.
Position your eyes at about an arm’s length from the computer screen. Viewing distances that are too short may require greater effort from your eyes in order to focus and may lead you to sit in inappropriate postures.
Take a 20-second break from the computer screen every 20 minutes to look at something at least 20 feet (approx. 6 meters) away. This is also the time for you to blink at regular intervals to moisten your eyes.
Rest your eyes for 15 minutes after two hours of computer use.

What causes the problems?
Eye muscular effort:
Accommodation and convergence are the two main functions that define the viewing of objects at close distances.
- Accommodation: is the automatic adjustment of the eye for focusing on near objects by changing the shape of the lenses.
- Convergence: is the automatic inward turn of the eyes (toward the nose) when viewing close objects.
The shorter the viewing distance, the greater the eye muscular effort to accommodate and converge. This increases the risk for eye discomfort and strain. The distinction between far and close distances can vary according to each individual. It can also change over time due to factors like age.
Low blinking frequency:
We normally blink around 12-15 times per minute but only half to a third that often while using digital devices, which may contribute to dry eyes.
Improper body posture:
Viewing computer screens too closely may cause you to assume inadequate body postures that may lead to body pains.
Who is it for?
Persons of all ages who use digital devices are at risk. Besides adults, children and teens also use computers every day to do homework and play games. Many of them keep performing an enjoyable task with great concentration until they get really tired, without being aware of their vision health.

We’re not claiming to cure anything with the use of this device. Since there are many studies that suggest taking preventive measures to minimize the risk of experiencing Digital Eye Strain, we were inspired to create Sight Cue to help computer users take such preventive actions in a consistent manner. We strongly believe in preventing illnesses (whenever possible) rather than curing them with medicine or surgery.
Risks and challenges
The design of our prototype has been fully tested, thus, there should not be any delays due to design modifications. When we estimated our shipping timeframe, we took into consideration the lead times provided to us by all the different parties that will help us produce and deliver our product to you, but these lead times are also to the best of their knowledge of their business capabilities. We hope you can understand that there will always be the possibility of undesired delays in our delivery dates due to uncertainties that may arise. The most relevant causes would be the following:
- Manufacturers & Suppliers: delays due to production capacity limitations, excessive production orders from different clients, factory and equipment damages, and backorders of certain components.
- Courier: delays in the courier’s estimated shipping time to international destinations.
That said, we have successfully worked with our partners before and we believe them to be reliable enough to help us fulfill your pledges on time. In addition, backers will be able to track the status of their delivery to monitor the actual shipping time. If for any reason we start experiencing or predict we will be experiencing any delay in our schedule, we will surely keep you informed in the Updates Section and work on minimizing the impact as soon as possible.
