In the fall of 2014, we found our dream home on Craigslist. We left our 1,000-square-foot apartment in the city, downsized our possessions and moved into a camper trailer.
We lived in a family's backyard, mostly off the grid. It was a decision we made to reduce our environmental footprint and be closer to nature.
Every person who lives small has a story and they all have inspired me. We are so grateful for this community. We have all chosen alternative lifestyles that grant us happiness and the ability to travel more freely.
More than a year ago, we started sharing blog posts about these people.
Now we are ready to share our story.
To make sure we can continue to share weekly stories on people who live alternative lifestyles, we are asking for your support with our latest project.
Tiny House, Tiny Footprint Book
Support our Kickstarter by ordering your copy of our book, Roll with Kathleen, Greg + Blaize in a Camper Trailer.
I'm not the best artist, so I wanted to team up with someone who could take my photography and turn it into something amazing. I have been working with Natalie Fleming since June, and she has exceeded my expectations.
1. Your name in the book and on our website
First of all, thank you for visiting this page and reading our story. It means so much that you are here. To show our support, we want to list your name in this book as well as on our website. We couldn't do it without you.
2. Coloring Book
I have been inspired by all the adult coloring books out there. I wanted something that would appeal to children as well as adults. This collection of illustrations will provide some much needed entertainment on the road and fuel your adventure spirit.
3. Tiny House, Tiny Footprint Hardcover Book
This book will take you beyond the snapshots you see that we post on our Instagram and inside our camper trailer. Learn what challenges we faced when we left the city and moved into a family's backyard. Find out how our world shifted when we discovered a connection to nature.
Where will your money go?
If we are able to reach our goal, the first thing we will do is pay the wonderful people who have helped make this project happen.
This book couldn't happen without these people
We recognize talented people when we see their work or when we meet them. Our Kickstarter crew consists of four individuals who believed in our project and we want to support them.
Our illustrator Natalie Fleming helped bring this project to life.
Our videographer Ben Saheb produced our Kickstarter video.
Kate MacDougall edited this book and the blog posts you read each week.
Marianne Brown came to our home to photograph us in our element, so that we could better tell our story.
Printing and shipping the book
Additional funds will be used to print and ship these rewards right to your hands. We realize a lot of you may be on the road, so we wanted to time our shipments around the holidays in case you may be visiting with family or friends in their homes.
Blog posts and building out our van
The remaining (or any extra money) will be used to pay ourselves back for some of the blog posts we've done and pay ourselves forward for some that we will continue to do. We will also use a small portion to help build out our van. Our camper is too big to travel, so we will be using our van as our next adventure mobile. The downsizing continues, as we will go from 140 square feet to roughly the size of a queen mattress.
What happens if we reach our goal?
That would be amazing. We hope you believe in this book as much as we do. We have been working with a local bookstore and if we go beyond our goal, they will be organizing a book launch for us in Denver. You will be able to come out and we will be able to thank you in person. More details to come if our goal is reached and this is able to happen.
Risks and challenges
This is our first book project and already we have learned so much. We decided to self publish this book so we could have control over the writing, design, marketing and distribution.
I have already finished writing the book and my illustrator is working hard to complete her remaining illustrations. We are ready to get this project moving so it can be in your hands around the holidays and you can share it with your loved ones.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
