Tiny Dungeon is a minimalist roleplaying game, that can be played with or without miniatures. However, Smoking Salamander recognizes two things: miniatures bring a extra level of depth to your game, and standard miniatures have several drawbacks - they're costly, delicate, and often require you to paint them yourself.
Case in point: The 28mm Salimar figure you see in the video was "accidentally" bumped off the table while making the video by resident dungeon-cat, Hemingway. His pipe broke clean off!
Our answer? Meeples!
Meeples for a number of reasons!
- They are extremely affordable on any gamer's budget.
- They come ready to play! No painting required.
- They're sturdy! Just pop them in your dice bag with your dice and you're ready to go play!
- They're compatible! You can use these "Mega Meeples" with any of MeepleSource's current lines of Mega Meeples or Character Meeples.
- At 19mm tall, they fit perfectly on any standard one inch grid gaming mat, tiles, or 3D dungeon tiles.
- They're not just for Tiny Dungeon. You can use these for any tabletop fantasy roleplaying game as an alternative to the expensive standard 28mm miniatures.
- Finally, being produced by the Meeple experts at MeepleSource, you know they're a quality product.
What About Monsters?
As mentioned above in the bullet points, Smoking Salamander's Adventurer Meeples are created by MeepleSource. MeepleSource already has a number of Meeples available that make for excellent monsters, plus there is always the option of "blank" 19mm Meeples to represent generic enemies. These Meeples come in black, red, and purple. You can mix and match these colors to your choosing!
Our first stretch goal will be at $8,000.00. This seems like a lot, but originally we planned to release the female Meeples at $7,000.00, and instead decided to release them immediately! So for every $1,000.00 pledged to the project after $7,000.00, we will commission a new monster Meeple, voted on by you, the backers! Why after $7,000.00? Well, that's the cost to manufacture the male and female Meeples and cover potential shipping. At $7,000.00, the project is roughly solvent and pays for itself.
Pledge $3.00 USD to get your first Meeple, or $10.00 USD to get five. After that, you can simply add additional Meeples that are released from this Kickstarter for $2.00 USD per Meeple. No limits, and you get to specifically pick the Meeples you want for your table!
For those who missed out on our first Kickstarter for Tiny Dungeon and are interesting in grabbing the game, you can add $15.00 USD to your pledge for a print copy of the rules handbook!
If you do so, please keep in mind that the handbook will ship with your Meeples, roughly around February. The handbook itself will be available for purchase sooner, approximately around December. But this might be a better option for new Backers and will help avoid paying for shipping twice - especially for international Backers.

Our previous Kickstarter offered an exclusive Chessex Tiny Dungeon dice, and they were quite popular. In case you missed out on that chance, we are now offering the official Smoking Salamander dice, again created by Chessex. This dice is from their Nebula line, and has translucent, smokey swirls that appear to shift in color from black to blues and purples depending on lighting. Given our mascot, it's clearly the perfect choice for our flagship dice!
Our previous Kickstarter offered the 3d6 add-on for $5.00 USD, but those were Kickstarter exclusive dice. In light of that, we are offering full playsets of these smoking hot dice for $4.00 USD. Or, if you just want one, you can add $2.00 USD to your pledge.
Want more than just 3d6? You can add as many sets as you like. Just add an additional $4.00 USD to your Pledge for every set.
"Roll the dice to see if I'm getting drunk!"Get your official Smoking Salamander shot glass and you're halfway there! The image above is a proof of the final product, which features everyone's favorite salamander silkscreened on a 1oz shot glass. These are the kind you typically find in actual bars - the extra thick glass base makes them quite sturdy, so they won't break easily and can withstand you quite literally hammering them back!
Please note: As the image is silkscreened, we recommend washing by hand and not in a dishwasher!
Also for Tiny Dungeon Backers who may have missed out on the Game Master Screen, you can add $5.00 USD to your Pledge to receive a copy! Like the handbook, this will ship with the Meeples, although it will be available for purchase before that. This has been added due to numerous requests.
The tri-fold screen will fold down to 6x6 inches, and when unfolded, will be 18 inches long and 6 inches high and is printed on thick cardstock with a UV coating. The back side will include a selection of relevant rules information pertaining to Tiny Dungeon.
This large dice bag by NutSak Games is perfect for holding Meeples as well! It's big enough to fit the entire Tiny Dungeon handbook, your dice, and your Meeples. Not to mention it features a lovely embroidered rendition of everyone's favorite salamander!
A popular add-on option with our previous Kickstarter, we are bringing the corded version back for this one.
Examples of Meeples in Battle!
MeepleSource.com was kind enough to send me a bunch of extra Meeples with my order. So what you are seeing is some of their current Character Meeples, as well as the add-on Generic Enemy pack.
This mock-up is using my handpainted Dragonstone dungeon tile set and some accessories. The tiles on the floor are one inch by one inch, so you can see the Meeples fit in quite nicely.
This set is the infamous Dwarven Forge dungeon set with accessories. Again, you can see just how well the Meeples look and fit in here.
Meeples don't have to stand up, and in this case I am using one of my many Dungeon Tile sets offered by Wizards of the Coast. Even when lying down, the Meeples fit perfectly within the one by one inch grid.
Risks and challenges
The biggest potential setback that could occur lies within the development of the Meeples once they are completed. My delivery date is a rough estimate based on the initial five Adventurer Meeples. There is a three month production time once they are ordered; and it would make sense that if we are successful in adding more Meeples, that production time could be increased.
As backers of Tiny Dungeon will know, I'm very responsive and open to questions from everyone! Smoking Salamander has a lively forum, and I do my best to post updates on almost a daily basis to keep in touch with my backers so they know exactly what is going on.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
