Miracles and Marvels: Stories
A new collection of fantastic stories by Tim Pratt, Hugo Award winner and World Fantasy and Nebula Award finalist.
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Wed, March 20 2019 3:01 PM UTC +00:00.
I'm putting together a new collection of short stories, Miracles and Marvels, gathering my best work from the past six years (since my last general collection, Antiquities and Tangibles, came out).
This volume will include at least one new story, plus author notes about my process with bonus weird anecdotes, and an introduction. I'll publish it as an ebook in assorted formats and a trade paperback edition. You can already see what a gorgeous cover I have up above, designed by Jenn Reese.
In addition to a new story (or two or three; see stretch goals below), Miracles and Marvels will include the best stories I've published in the past several years, from magazines, anthologies, my Patreon, and limited-edition chapbooks. Even if you're a devoted fan of my work, there's sure to be material here you haven't seen.
I've got stories about a sexually transmitted volcano, a polyamorous quad fighting fairies, the cave bear that appears to everyone at the moment of their death, time-traveling lesbians who fight crime, a woman who spits ghosts at people, a guy who wakes up in a different universe every time he goes to sleep, and a teen girl sword-and-sorcery duo named Crow and Lion, among other wonders.
I've won a Hugo Award for my short fiction, and I've been a finalist for Theodore Sturgeon Memorial, Bram Stoker, World Fantasy, and Nebula Awards, among others. Sample some of my free stories if you want a taste.
My plan is to have the book finished, published, and in your hand (or phone or tablet!) by mid-summer if all goes well, but certainly by the end of the year.
I want to focus on the fiction here, so I'm setting a modest goal, but if things go bigger, I'll add some fancier things!
I'm kickstarting this because, though my novels pay better and get more attention, stories are my first love and what I do best, and one of the joys of crowdfunding is that it allows smaller, less commercial projects to flourish. I hope you can help this one happen.
If I hit $4,000, I will write a second original story for the book.
If I hit $6,000, I will commission interior illustrations for some of the stories. (I love giving artists money.)
If I hit $8,000, I'll write a third original story for the book.
Some smart people have said nice things about me over the years, so you don't have to trust my own self-regard.

Risks and challenges
This is something like my tenth Kickstarter project, and I've done DIY and crowdfunded stuff beyond that, so barring unforeseen medical or personal catastrophe, I don't foresee any problems getting the book out this year.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
