First Mixing Session
I just wanted to let you know that, thanks to you, I was able to start mixing my album last night. I'm working with my longtime friend and collaborator Geoff Michael at his beautiful Ann Arbor studio, Big Sky Recording.
This is probably my favorite part of the process because it's when the songs grow into the best and final (recorded) versions of themselves. It's the subtle molding and shaping of the various minute details in each track that provides the desired "feels" and helps to stir up emotions in the listener. I believe that mixing is what makes or breaks an album and the task of trying to bring out the best in these recordings is a difficult but extremely rewarding process.
Geoff is an enormously talented engineer with great ears and he's mixed each of my solo albums as well as both Great Lake Myth Society albums. Getting back into the Big Sky control room feels like coming home and it's because of your generous pledges that I'm able to be there. So, thank you.
I have mixing dates booked throughout August and into September. I'll post occasional updates on my progress, but you can be sure I'm going to be hard at work this summer.
If anyone is in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area this weekend, I'm playing two solo acoustic sets tomorrow night (Friday, July 29th) in the new beer garden at Cultivate Coffee & Tap House between 8-10pm. I'd love to be able to say hi and thank you in person.
