One Supplement a Month, Guaranteed.
The Expedition Journals project is a leap in to non-traditional fantasy roleplaying through the simple introduction of one idea at a time. Starting in August we will release a 10 to 20 page supplement, primarily for electronic distribution, focusing on a different subject to add fluff to your roleplaying world. We are choosing to release them one at a time, not just for the ease of production, but so it will be simpler to incorporate them or to choose not to do so.
Those that donate at at least Immunes-level will receive all 12 of these supplements over the course of the year. Our lowest benchmark will also include physical copies for those most financially dedicated to our project. As we begin to meet higher benchmarks more and more physical copies will be produced and this collected versions of the supplements will be offered to other donor-levels.
All supplements will be written in a narrative style from the point of view of Amestus Armen, the leader of the Expedition as well as falling to the notes and commentary of his fellows and other expedition members on occasion. This was decided as a majority of supplements are developed as rules heavy, by heading in the opposite direction we hope to highlight the uniqueness of the project as well as focus more on the "role"-playing over the "roll"-playing and allow us to present a cross-system set of ideas.
"You do not know what you are missing, you do not know because no one has yet set foot where I aim to tread..."
"I am Amestus Armen and I am an Imperial Seeker for the College of Twelve Pillars chosen by Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Reesa, the Fourth of Her Name, and the Matriarch of All Enlightened Peoples to lead an expedition across the Three Seas to this land so recently discovered.
"My fellows and I seek to venture to this land and meet it's people, discover it's knowledge, and catalog it's plants and animals. Ultimately we seek to bring all of it's treasures in to the Empire through virtue of our presence and superiority. While we seek to bring back all manner of strange discoveries this will be in exchange for our custom and enlightenment, a gift Her Imperial Majesty directs we bring to all peoples of the world.
"It is by that order and direction I come here seeking noble men and women of the Legion to join our Expedition. Your loyalty is unquestionable, your abilities are unfailing, and your experience in service to the Legions is invaluable. We will be heading in to the unknown, we know only that these lands exist and that they are populated, therefore we need the best and brightest from among you.
"It is by this fact that Her Imperial Majesty has granted me permissions to recruit from among the Legions any man or woman willing to serve their Empire in the pursuit of knowledge. So I ask: do you have the determination and skill to join me and my fellows, or are you content to garrison and insurgencies? Join me and embrace your place in the destiny of our great Empire."
Release Timeline of the Expedition Journals
While the first seven Expedition Journals are already written and undergoing editing and formatting only the first four are mentioned here. Additional Expedition Journal releases will be mentioned via update with time and interest. The rough release date of each Expedition Journal will be the 20th of each month. In addition to the donor copies sent out they will be made available via electronic retailer on or about the same date (retailer TBD).
August: "The Pantheon of the Alendaii"
In which the Alendaii, meaning: "those who were before", are described and the faith which has sprung up around them is examined. Intended to introduce a unique, non-traditional religion to your roleplaying world.
September: "Strange Beasts of the Longlands"
In which the most unique of the beasts discovered by the expedition are categorized and their habits and biology related to the scholars of the Empire. Intended to bring to your world a few creatures never before seen.
October: "Alchemical Practices of the Urvalis Peoples"
In which the differences in the alchemical sciences of the Empire and the Urvalis are highlighted and compared. Intended to introduce a more dynamic scheme of alchemy to your players and game system.
November: "Traveler's Log: A Simple Tree
In which the story of one particular incident of the expedition is related to the scholars and Legionaries of the Empire. Intended to serve as an adventure, adventure seed, or back story for your roleplaying campaign.
In addition to our primary goal of raising $250 to guarantee production we have established several additional goals that will be used to ramp up actual physical production of the Expedition Journal collection to be released at the end of the project cycle in August of 2013.
$500 Benchmark Goal: A Comfortable Expedition
"You mean we're bringing food?"
The members of the expedition (yourself included) thank you. Yes, you're thanking yourself. We can spend just a little bit longer exploring this strange new land.
Once we achieve this level we will be able to raise the production of our physical copies and will begin offering signed print hard copies of the entire collection to Centurion and Optio-level donors at the end of year.
At this Benchmark we will also introduce the Consul-level donor position, of which there will be only one. One of the most beloved of Her Imperial Majesty you can be assured this person with be lauded with gifts and praise (actual benefits to this position remaining unrevealed until such a time it is available).
$1000 Benchmark Goal: An Indulgent Expedition
"Food, wine, and even water to bathe in?"
More than just staying fed, the Expedition can stay clean and well-equipped. This means the reports may be just a little less scattered since Amestus can worry more on his findings than whether or not his hair is appropriately groomed.
Once we achieve this level we will be able to commit to better production of our physical copies and will begin offering signed print hard copies of the entire collection to Decurian-level donors at the end of year. Additionally Legate-level donor's copies will be Perfect Bound.
$2500 Benchmark Goal: A Leisurely Expedition
"I thought you said this trip was going to be dangerous?"
We've brought so many people and supplies it's almost a vacation instead of a serious scientific journey. Since there is so much interest and support for the Expedition we will stay for a 13 month (not seriously, just a 13th supplement) before returning home.
Once we achieve this level we will be able to commit to even better materials and more custom benefits and will begin offering unsigned hard print copies of the entire collection to Immunes-level donors at the end of year. Additionally Centurion-level donors copies will be Perfect Bound and Legate-level donor's will receive an additional Collector's Edition copy that will be hand-made and aged to appear to be actual copies of the Expedition Journal. All physical copies of the Expedition Journals, regardless of form, will include the 13th supplement.
Notice of Character Integration and Survivability
Upon funding of the project during the Backer Survey phase you will be permitted to choose to be noted via your real name, a fictional (character) name, or a combination thereof (or to remain unlisted). Those choosing to utilize a fictional (character) name either in whole or in part may very well be integrated in to the fiction of the game by being mentioned directly, or in passing, by other characters.
However, this fame comes at a cost. The survival of your character can not be guaranteed as expeditions are dangerous things in to lands populated by both disease and predators. The higher your pledge will garner the promise of a glorious death in service to Her Imperial Majesty or your fellow expedition members.
Shipping of Physical Rewards
Shipping is considered included for all physical rewards in the case of all US, FPO/ APO, and Canadian addresses. For all other addresses additional charges may apply that will be discussed on an individual by individual basis at the time of funding (we made this decision as we felt blanket extra charges may be unfair to some donors).
Yes, a mistake was made in the initial rewards posting and when assembling our rewards matrix we missed adding the following text to the Decurian-level donor entry:
"You will also receive an electronic version of your Certificate of Commission into the Legions of Her Imperial Majesty to commemorate your achievement of obtaining the rank of Decurian."
Apologies for the error.
