Ode to non-linear paths, an award! (+ we're hiring)
We are especially excited to inform you that we won INTERNATIONAL BOOK OF THE YEAR at the Australian Book Industry Awards! We want to hug all our Australian backers so much right now!!!
On May 1st it rained in Los Angeles
And it was a very special day for our growing company of rebels: the first day in our first Los Angeles office, the headquarters of Timbuktu. The plan was to post an update today with a picture of our team at the office, but you're not going to find that picture in this update.
Let me explain
With much excitement, I (Francesca) filled my backpack plus two tote bags of rebel girls' goodies, notepads, pens, and paper. I got in the car and drove to meet the team there.
With a smile on my face, I started crossing the street in front of the office. Then, I slipped and broke an ankle.
I didn't make it to the office, and I won't see it "in action" for quite some time.
A powerful reminder
Things often do not go as planned. The rebel girls in our books know that very well. Life happens between trials and errors. We try to convince ourselves that there is a way things are "supposed to be," but at the end of the day, the only thing we've got are things as they are and how we choose to deal with them.
What does this have to do with the podcast?
This was the first time we produced a podcast. There were so many unknowns. And we had all sorts of problems and setbacks and moments of despair... but we kept working. We wanted to create something special so bad that we didn't let anything get in the way. And imagine how proud we felt when Time Magazine included our podcast among the 50 Best Shows to listen to right now!

In case you didn't listen to the Madam C.J. Walker episode read by Poorna Jagannathan... well, run! It's fantastic!
We celebrate non-linear thinkers, determined doers, passionate learners and... WE ARE HIRING: a Managing Editor, an Editor, a Director of Social Media, a Social Media Manager and a Full Stack E-Commerce Engineer in Los Angeles.
(Want to mix remote work with office time? We're flexible.)
Please, find all of the details here and tell your friends!
Stay rebel, stay resilient and never give up.
Francesca and Elena
