Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls is a children's book packed with 100 bedtime stories about the life of 100 extraordinary women from the past and the present, illustrated by 100 female artists from all over the world.
We unlocked all our stretch goals, which means that every copy of the book will now come with a Rebel Girls Poster, a Rebel Girls Tattoo Pack, and an Audio Book. We will also gift 400 copies to Read to a Child, an amazing nonprofit organization that inspires caring adults to read aloud to at-risk children.
Plus, we unlocked our Surprise Stretch Goal! Which means that next January 2017 we will fly to Rwanda for 7 days of workshops for children and grown ups about female leadership. We are partnering with The Art House Rwanda, a local collective of artists based in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda and one of the most vibrant cities in East Africa.

Hello! We are Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo, co-founders of Timbuktu Labs. Nice to meet you!
This picture was taken in Milan, at the end of 2011. In those days, we were packing our belongings to fly to California and try to build a company. Elena had been working as a journalist and Francesca as a stage director and playwright. Working late nights and weekends, we had just built the first iPad magazine for children in the world, Timbuktu Magazine.
Timbuktu Magazine won lots of awards and was featured in so many amazing publications!
Fast forward to 2016, we have 12 mobile apps in the Apple App Store, we published 6 paper books in English, French and Italian and we built a toolkit that allows underserved communities to design and build playable spaces in collaboration with the NFL, Kaboom, Zynga.org and the YMCA.
Because we are girls. Our entrepreneurial journey made us understand how important it is for girls to grow up surrounded by female role models. It helps them to be more confident and set bigger goals. We realized that 95% of the books and TV shows we grew up with, lacked girls in prominent positions. We did some research and discovered that this didn't change much over the past 20 years, so we decided to do something about it.
But, by any means, read these stories to your sons! It is crucial that they learn to identify and empathize also with female heroes! The stories in the book are a great source of inspiration for anyone, male or female, child or adult.
We need your help to print the first 1,000 copies, get an ISBN, hire an editor, pay the artists.
Risks and challenges
Risks are low. We have a lot of experience in creating publishing projects for kids both in the digital and in the physical space. But above all, we have a network of trustworthy, talented artists and designers we have been working with for the past 4 years (with some of them it's almost 10!).
To further minimize risks, we started working on this project one year ago, researching the biographies of many inspiring women and working on several formats before we decided on the style and look of "Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls".
One of the most exciting aspects of "Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls" is that it will be created by 100 female artists. This means that they can work simultaneously on all the portraits and reduce dramatically the time it would take to just one artist to create all the portraits.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
