Why we always remember love wrong. - A short film
Why we always remember love wrong. - A short film
Think about your last relationship. Are your memories happy, or sad ones?
Hold on to a happy moment and ask yourself why it ended. How did it get to the point of no return?
Did it just somehow, fall apart?
Maybe looking back you even did some regretful things.
Answering those questions is never easy. Moreover, if you do, who’s to say that your memory is even accurate? Maybe you're missing something important.
What would happen if you got the chance to rejoin with the person you (used to) love? Certainly a part of you would need to confront the past. But would your answers to the questions above be the same now that you're talking about it? Would the one in front of you agree with your views?
"MEMORIES" aims to answer those questions. Furthermore, it gives a detailed insight into, not only the relationship of two people who used to know each other, but also the inner workings of the very reason why it fell apart.
As their paths cross again the movie portrays the different perceptions of one another and the unequal memories these two characters share. The male lead reaches out to the love from his past and asks her to take the leading role of his new screenplay about the times they shared together. Above witnessing how they deal with one another in the present and their own versions of the past we even get glimpses into the future, in an uniquely cinematic way.
The movie is set in the beautiful city of Amsterdam. Due to its closeness to Dortmund, home of the entire crew, the travel costs will be quite low. As an international metropolis, Amsterdam also creates the perfect foundation for a story written in english about moving towns.
Moreover, the city itself will not just be a location but an ever present character. With its beautiful, narrow alleys, historic houses and small rivers it creates a romantic atmosphere, which encourages characters to confront a love that has faded over time.
Also. Where would YOU rather shoot a film?...
The movie will have a runtime of about 40 minutes shot over the course of two weeks. It will be a film primarily aimed to compete at a variety of film festivals worldwide. (TIFF, Berlinale, Amsterdam Film Festival, etc...)

Writer, Director, Producer
Till is a self employed film maker who is primarily active in the german commercial film industry.
Even though he worked on films since his teenage years his desire for creating movies actually started off as an interest in acting, which he pursued in Toronto during a Work & Travel year. He loved the craft, but didn't like the way an actor needs to "hope to get the right call" instead of just writing scripts himself to work himself up to it.
That's why he chose to dedicate himself to the craft of making film and understanding its countless underlying gears of a perfectly running mechanism to satisfy a viewers mind.
After launching his first online German learning channel in english and writing and producing his first own cinematic film he moved to Dortmund and went to film school for Film & Directing. Despite learning a whole lot about film making he felt an ever growing urge to really get started the in indurstry, so he quit the university and started focusing more on paid side projects.
His following years of experience and the drive for bigger things have lead him to write and produce his yet biggest movie "MEMORIES".
Even though the project holds a lot of risks, he fully believes in the team he chose and their potential to create something extraordinary that lasts a lifetime.
Emanuel E. Huwa
Assistant Director & Producer
Simply put: He just always loved stories!
... already as a young child, but in elementary school it truly became a passion. When reading other peoples tales wasn't enough, he started writing his own. After enrolling in business school for a few years his path eventually brought him to filmschool where he used his newly gained skills to produce, write and direct two short films, of 30 min and 4 min.
In 2018 he landed his first mayor gig in the production Team of "Alexanderplatz", a feature length film produced by "Sommerhaus Films" which will be released in theaters in 2019. Later on he joined the production team of Warner Bros. International Television for a german TV show production.
Camera Operator & Director of Photography
Samuel is a sought-after camera operator for the commercial film sector. He shoots for german companies such as "Volks Wagen" and "TremoniaMedia Filmproduktion".
He discovered his love for cinematography early on in his life and spent most of his free time as a teenager with a camera in his hand. His first paid jobs were smaller projects such as recording and editing plays. This love for interesting visuals led him all over Europe, where he shot dance performances for the ERASMUS project "Come Closer".
The natural progression of his craft drives him more and more these days to pursue a rather artistic approach of filming, which is why he wrote, produced, directed and shot his first two cinematic short films in 2018. His hopes are to get accepted at one of the most renowned german filmschools to deepen his already profound knowledge of filmmaking and camera work.
Chief Lighting Technician
As the number one "go to lighting guy" at his univerity he shows a diversified portfolio of quite a few gaffer jobs and the experience that comes with it.
At an age where most children don't even think about the next day Yannick already knew that he would pursue a career that would take full advantage of his urge to tell stories.
As a very visual minded creator, he always had a neck for lighting in relation to mood and atmosphere and understands the importance of elevating storytelling with the right light.
Before attending filmschool, where he successfully wrote, produced & directed his intermediate thesis film "Colors", he had already made several work experiences at production companies producing for german television.
Finally in his early twenties he founded his own company focusing on cinematic lighting solutions. With every completed project his skills as a lighting technician have found their way into a variety of bigger commercial productions each day.
Production Sound Mixer
Despit being an aspiring filmmaker David still works at a hardware store hoping to make the final transition to the film industry. Therefore he developed the greatest ambition and dedication, which he brings into any project he is a part of.
As a young skater and mountain biker he combined his passion for sport and film in the production of sport videos.
His passion and talent eventually led to an admission for a german filmschool. Ever since he took part in several productions such as the award winning short film "MIA" (Best Drama, LA Film Festival).
Beyond all, his energetic mentality is a huge gain for any film production as it sourrounds him with a contagious thrive to overcome any obstacle.
Set Photographer & Production Assistant
Wolf is a self employed painter & gallery owner who specialized in abstract, informal art.
The simple need to take high resoution images of his paintings caused him to pick up photography as an interest. Quickly he realized the potential of the modern, digital media market and dives increasingly deeper into film making as an artform.
His newly gained skills really come in handy at busy film sets where documenting usually only takes place in front of the camera.
Most of the content for our backers will be created by Wolf and there aren't many people better suited for the job.
Camera- & Production Assistant
As a sought-after sound mixer and gaffer he's a solid part of any film production and his wide spread skills suport the whole set in many ways.
At a young age he gained experience on stage as an actor and in an economic apprenticeship, which proofed to be helpful to him ever since. Not only for important production and managing tasks on set but also for directing actors towards a breathtaking on-screen perfomance. After finishing his education in economics he solely focused on filmmaking. Being part of a variety of projects, gave him profound skills in producing, filming and as a floor manager.
Tristan is about to produce and direct his graduate film as part of his degree at filmschool.
DAS LICHT DER STILLE (2018)
Runtime: 4:45 min
Runtime: 31:50 min
The largest amount of the overal production cost is being contributed by the whole crew. Every single one of us agrees to work on this project for virtually no pay. We're all aspiring film makers who just want to create an amazing cinematic experience!
The biggest single expense will be the flat for the crew in Amsterdam. Accomodation for such large groups is generally quite expensive, but we were able to pull some strings and get a fitting cottage for just about 2.500€ for the whole stay.
Since the actors will be cast externally, they will be the only members of the team with a definite (small) salary of about 1000€ each.
2000€ will be spent on two weeks of catering.
2000€ will be spent on transportation and acomodation costs in Dortmund.
1500€ will flow into camera equipment, props, locations and insurances.
Risks and challenges
The main risks that we're taking are the weather and technical difficulties.
Since most of the script will be shot in parks outside, having a rainy week of shooting could be a real downer. Nonetheless we are already prepared for such a scenario and would work the new circumstances into the plotline.
Equipment can always break and stall a shoot. That's why we will make sure to purchase an insurance, to be covered in any gruesome event.
Lastly we see a slim risk of the editing process taking too long to apply for some mayor festivals. All we can really do is to put everything we got into the work that we do and get help from the outside in case we really need it.
All of us have worked together before and we are confident that our experience and efforts will pay off in a strong, flexible workflow which overcomes any obstacle.
