A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
TiGr - Strong and Light Titanium Bike Locks
We love Kickstarter: the thrill of the campaign, the people, the immediate feedback... we're two for two and now we’re back for a third time!
We introduced the TiGr concept in 2011 with our first campaign, TiGr: Titanium Lock as Cool as your Bike. The lock design was ground breaking, and the campaign an unqualified success. We shipped all rewards on schedule and the lock received rave reviews from backers.
The TiGr mini won the prestigious Red Dot Product Design Award in 2016. It's an honor to be included with the world’s best product designers representing iconic brands like BMW, Bosch, Sony, IKEA, Helly Hansen, Google, Nike and others.
We are launching a third campaign we are responding to Kickstarter’s Make/100 challenge. Our goal is to kick off 2017 by making a 100-piece-run of something new and unique - the next step in TiGr evolution...
Introducing the TiGr mini+
60% more locking area than the original TiGr mini
468 grams (1.03 lb)
Same security level as the TiGr mini (1.25" wide titanium bow)
Compatible with all TiGr Lock cylinders
Compatible with TiGr Lock mounting clip
Each TiGr mini+ we make for the Make/100 challenge will be laser marked with a unique serial number. The first backer’s lock will be marked 1 of 100, the last backer’s lock will be marked 100 of 100.
It’s not a U-lock... It’s a YOU-lock!
Less than 1/2 the weight of U-Locks with equivalent security rating
Push-button locking mechanism
Easier to carry
Durable ABS plastic
As easy to install as a bottle cage
40 grams (1.4 oz)
The mini+ has been tested by a select group of experienced cyclists including veteran bicycle messengers in NYC, all-weather bicycle commuters in Seattle, bicycle security enthusiasts in Washington DC, bicycle industry experts in Oregon and California, and others. The mini+ product development is ready for the next level... The Kickstarter Make/100 Campaign.
One TiGr mini+ titanium bow that is laser marked with limited edition logo and serial number, one TiGr cylinder with two keys and one TiGr mounting clip
Where Will The Funds Go?
The funds will go to production, tooling and cost of goods. Funds will also be used for producing the campaign, including video production. Our first aim is to cover our costs, our bigger goals are to get feedback, build awareness, respond to existing users and reach new customers.
Risks and challenges
Every time a new product is created there are risks, including vendor issues, unforeseen production delays, material supply interruptions, and acts of god, to name a few. The good news is that we have excellent vendors and suppliers, most of whom have been with us since our first campaign. They have helped us grow and have enabled us to deliver Kickstarter rewards ahead of schedule in the past.
All our primary vendors are a short drive from our NJ shop. The key mechanism is supplied by a high quality, highly reliable industrial lock manufacturer in Taiwan. All other components are made in the USA and assembled in NJ. No need to use Kickstarter funds for overseas travel or other boondoggles.
