About this project
My name is Carlos, and I am an artist based in Florida. I've been drawing for most of my life and love everything that has to do with art and design. Recently, I had put together some pieces based on my take on the pixel style, put it in my portfolio and never gave it much thought after that.
It wasn't until this year's MegaCon and conversations with friends that the idea of displaying my unique art style there came about.
A quick definition: In digital imaging, a pixel, is a physical point in a raster image, or the smallest, addressable element in a display device; so it is the smallest, controllable element of a picture represented on the screen.
The idea was todigitally draw in larger then common pixels, being anything above x1 on screen. If you look closely at your monitor (go ahead, i'll wait....) you'll see tiny little dots, that's a pixel. Though, at this close a range, it's hard to tell what anything is, you have to pull back a bit to see the whole picture. The same will be with this, you hang it on your wall, if you stand too close, it's hard to decipher, step back a couple feet, and BAM! Art.
After much trial and error, hours of testing and coffee, I came up with the best possible enlargement size of a pixel to make the image look understandable and beautiful all in one. Each block is placed by hand, which means every square you see, was moved individually and put together in grids in order to make the final image.
(Images below are not the actual size of the art, picture and pixels are much larger and quality is WAY better. There are many more pieces to come, i'll post as they are complete)
Where It's Going:
Just about the full bulk of funding will go towards the cost of renting the venue space and printing the Art work, which in full color and 18" x 24" is pretty expensive. The space at the Convention itself is already $750, then comes the actual prints, which will come on HQ gloss poster paper, next comes the shipping costs to send posters all over the world, and anything else will cover new avenues of rewards (canvas, stickers, magnets, t-shirts etc).
Gone are the days of wonderfully created games and cartoons, I can remember a time when Saturday morning was all I looked forward to, but all hope is not lost. Together we can bring back a sliver of those days, for us and an introduction to a new generation.
Thank you in advance and I look forward to sharing this exciting journey with you all.
Yes! I am working on a bunch more as you are reading this! I plan on covering subjects like Naruto, Street Fighter, Pokemon, Mega Man, Final Fantasy, Zelda, Star Wars, Hello Kitty and many more!
You sure can! I'm focusing on what I call the "Golden Age" of games and cartoons, and chances are i'm already working on something you like, but feel free to comment or contact me for a request.
