MoonBot Kit provides three well-tested base robots for you to modify and extend, so you can focus more on the stuff that matters -- the software and applications.
But you can also make some pretty wild designs out of them.
For young students (8 years+), MoonBot can be programmed using the scratch language.

For advanced users, MoonBot is fully compatible with Arduino. You can use your favorite Arduino tool to program and hack the MoonBot.

The MU vision sensor is the AI core of the MoonBot Kit. It allows MoonBot to see the objects in the environment and do things based on what it sees.
MU vision sensor spec:

- Processor - ESP32 SoC with Bluetooth & Wifi, dual core @ 240Mhz
- Resolution - 640x480 @ 60fps
- Field of View - 90 degree diagonal
- Assistant Light - 2 LED assistant lights
- Recognition Algorithms - Face, Human, Ball, Line, Traffic Sign Detection, Color Recognition
In addition to the vision sensor, a voice command recognition module for MoonBot is also planned and will be released in Q2 2019.
Third party AI modules such as the Google AIY voice kit can also be connected to MoonBot (via an adapter cable).
Arduino Compatible Main Controller
The MoonBot's main controller is based on the Ardiuno compatible ATMega 1280.
You can use your favorite Arduino tool to program the MoonBot.

Servos and Motors
The MoonBot Kit includes three standard-size 55g metal gear servos. Each servo has a max torque of 8 kg-cm, and delivers enough power to lift the robot itself. The two driving motors are fully enclosed in plastics, with built-in encoder to measure each motor's precise rotation, which will keep the left and right wheels in perfect sync.
Sound and LED lights
MoonBot's eyes are made of 2 sets of 6 RGB color LEDs. The speaker module includes a decoding chip that you can upload and play any mp3 sound files.
Touch and Infra-red Sensors
The two touch sensors can be installed as MoonBot's ears. The two infra-red sensors can be used either for obstacle avoidance or as surface edge detector.
7.4V 1800 mAh rechargeable lithium battery, chargeable through a USB Type-C port. Estimated running time: 3 hours.
You can extend the MoonBot's functionalities with accessories made of metal, cardboard, or LEGO pieces. MoonBot comes with a set of accessories that you can build to help some of the missions, including cardboard basketball hoop, shovel, recognition cards and ping-pong balls.
There are also LEGO technic compatible holes on MoonBot's arms, which will be perfect to install your own tools made with LEGO.
Software and Programming
The software on MoonBot is designed to maximally leverage the popular Arduino eco-systems. Many books, tutorials and online resources for Arduino also apply to the MoonBot. You can program the MoonBot using either PC or Apps on Mobile devices with C, Scratch or Python.
On PC, all the Arduino programming environments are supported. You can use the classic Arduino interface for C programming or the open source Mixly project for Scratch programming. Python programming support will be added in Q2 2019, through a serial communication channel between MoonBot and the PC.
Phone and Tablet
On mobile devices such as phones and tablets, you can use Morpx's MU Bot App to program the MoonBot. MU Bot App support the Scratch style drag-and-drop programming. It also supports sharing code pieces between friends, which is very useful for classrooms.

The MoonBot Kit contains precision parts and lithium-ion batteries with a total shipping weight of 2 kg. It will be shipped with extra care from our factory in China by our trusted shipping partners.

Before launching on KickStarter, we have gone through multiple iterations of designing and engineering prototyping.
Now, we have finished all the design and verification steps, and will go to the production phase in Nov 2018. The first batch of MoonBot is expected to be shipped in Jan 2019.

We are a team of scientists, engineers and educators from Morpx, founded by former Google researcher Dr. Tianli Yu, with the belief that anyone can be part of the latest AI transformation. The MU series robot kits are what we created to fulfill this very mission.
Since its launch in 2016, the MU series robot kits have reached its third generation, and earned international recognition - Mom’s Choice Award 2017 for the SpaceBot kit, and CES Asia Innovation Award 2018 for the MoonBot Kit.
Risks and challenges
MoonBot is the third product in the MU series that hits the production phase. Over the past few years, we have gained enough experience in managing the production flow to minimize the risks. However, there still could be unexpected issues arise due to the large number of parts need to be manufactured. In such cases, the end of Jan 2019 delivery date could be delayed.
