Gamma Zine, Issue # 1 - Project Overview
Do you still play Gamma World or another post-apocalyptic, science fiction RPG? Do you wish there was more material for the games you play? Well, here's an answer to your wish! A 16+ page fanzine for your post-apocalyptic game campaign or reading pleasure. In the first issue of Gamma Zine, you'll find a short adventure, new mutated monsters, lost and forgotten tech, and more.
The zine will be black & white, saddle-stitched and digest-sized. It starts at 16 pages but increases in size as the project funding increases (Update: 28 pages, currently).
*** Latest News: Additional artwork added to the zine! ***
Kickstarter Zine Quest Initiative
This project supports the Zine Quest initiative for February. It conforms to the rules set by the initiative, detailed here.
Current Project Status / Goals
This area will display the current project status:
There are project goals that produce additional upgrades to the project:
This project has a short, two-week length, designed to get us from launch to completion quickly without all the wait time. Since most of the work is already done, we'll use the time between project end and fulfilment for content upgrades and print proof review(s).
Although the fanzine will focus primarily on the first edition of Gamma World by TSR, we'll try to keep much of the fanzine flexible to allow the reader to adapt its contents to other systems. However, when statistics are displayed for foes and challenges, we'll use the earliest edition of GW for the rules and stats.
At project launch, the fanzine will have pages dedicated to different areas of content. The table below highlights the division of content by topic.
As funding increases, additional content will be added, either expanding existing material by increasing page count per section or additional content features, e.g., a second adventure. New content like a short story or articles about systems or products may also be added.
Most of the artwork for the first issue of the 'zine will be purchased from DriveThruRPG's wide array of stock art. We're using this art because it's inexpensive, but also because there is some great art out there, begging to be used!
The cover of the this issue was created by Je Shields.

To keep the cost of the fanzine down, I'm limiting the project goals to just a few. These goals will increase the content in the fanzine to some degree.
Initial Funding: $150 adds an extra 2 pages to the book. **GOAL MET**
Double Funding: $300 adds an extra 2 pages to the book. **GOAL MET**
Triple Funding: $450 adds an extra 2 pages to the book. **GOAL MET**
Quadruple Funding: $600 adds an extra 2 pages to the book. **GOAL MET**
Quintuple Funding: $750 adds a Travis Hanson comic to the book. **GOAL MET**
Sextuple Funding: $900 adds a James Ward interview to the book. ** GOAL MET **
Septuple Funding: $1050 adds an extra 4 pages to the book. ** GOAL MET **
Octuple Funding: $1200 adds a third adventure to the book. ** GOAL MET **
Nonuple Funding: $1350 adds more artwork to the book.
Additional Goals after $1350 will be added as needed.
Printing and Shipping
Both the base cost (wholesale) of the book and shipping will be paid by you, the backer, as an additional cost above and beyond the Kickstarter reward price. The KS project reward price covers artwork, map upgrades, editing, writing, KS fees, processing fees, and print proofs. Also, I've factored in a little extra for page count increase (for extra art and/or maps), just in case we go over 16 pages in total.
The wholesale price of the premium, saddle-stitched book is estimated to be around $3-$4 (only costing over $3 if the page count goes higher than 28 pages). Your total cost between KS project and DriveThruRPG fulfillment for a printed book will be $6-$7 + shipping to your country.
Previous Fanzine Work
ThrowiGames has produced seven issues of the Back to BasiX fanzine, a quarterly 'zine that celebrates B/X D&D. The PDF and printed books can be found at RPGNow and Goodman Games, respectively. Obviously, we're no stranger to producing 'zines!
Other Gamma World Projects
We've produced a few other Gamma World and science fiction adventure books for conventions and players - DriveThruRPG has them all!
Special thanks to James Ward and TSR for their awesome creation that was Gamma World!
Risks and challenges
Since I've produced fanzines in print and PDF format before, you're backing a project where the creator (me) has done this before. I've also produced print-on-demand books through DriveThruRPG as well.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
