The proud and haughty fae come from the realm of Annwyn across the void. They alone have learnt to construct gates and dance at will across the different realms and as they have done so they have enslaved and plundered. The fae empire is extensive, as attested to by the myriad creatures forced to serve them or provide cruel sport. It was not long before they found the tuatha, a primitive people in whom the fae recognised something of their own characters. They took the tuatha as their children, nurturing and teaching them art, sciences and intrigue.
Fae love to observe violence and suffering, but for the most part they prefer to do so from afar and not sully their hands with the blood of their victims. The tuatha show no such reluctance, happy to get stuck in at the dirty end. As the fae came to realise this they saw they had made a mistake in raising up the natives of the mortal realm. Almost overnight the entire fae population of the mortal realm disappeared. Now they return to haunt Talamhlar once more in their rades and martial cadres.
Oakbound present the next in our continuing series to bring the various factions of our Celtic folklore world to life in miniature. Following on the trail of the gnomes, goblins, bucca, gnawlochs and pixies come the creatures that started it all, the fae. This campaign is to raise funds for production moulds for a series of fae characters and retainers which can be used in any fantasy miniatures game. The nobles would make good pirates or Venetian-style carnival-goers whilst the armoured fae martial have been designed to complement renaissance soldiery. Once the main goal has been met we have a series of additional miniatures waiting in the wings...
Each of the following miniatures are available separately. The ring symbols show the cost of each figure. These miniatures are cast in lead pewter and come unpainted. Most are single-piece castings but the larger pieces shown in the stretch goals section require assembly. Models on foot are shown on 30mm bases, mounted models are shown on 50mm bases. Bases are not supplied with these miniatures.
Fae have two great passions- hunting and intrigue. The sole occupation of their kind is to manoeuvre themselves into the highest social standing possible, usually by ingratiating themselves with favoured nobles then undermining their patrons and usurping their positions. The followers of a particular noble and their associated household servants are called a rade.

The fae martial do the dirty work of crushing any insurrection or threat to their home realm. Their thick clothing, armour and closed helms protect them from being splashed by their victims’ bodily fluids and they use polearms to keep their opponents at a distance.
Hobyah are donkey-headed servants who do the bulk of the manual labour the fae cannot abide. They also form the bulk of fae martial cohorts under the direction of the captains. Brownies are domestic servants often brought along on hunts to look after the hounds... something which often proves fatal to the poor brownie!
These miniatures will be unlocked and available once the goal listed is met.

For this campaign we have decided to allow pledges to be split in any way between the available figures, allowing you to mix and match exactly what you would like.
Each miniature has a symbol of a ring next to it with a value in. This is the number of rings the miniature costs (rings are standard currency in The Woods). Each £1 pledged to the campaign gets you 1 Ring to spend. For example, if you pledge £12 you can choose any 4 miniatures with a value of 3 Rings each.
A pledge manager will be open after the campaign completes to allow you to pick your miniatures, you'll also be able to add to your pledge at this point if you would like to.
If you would like any additional miniatures from the Oakbound shop (which you can find HERE) as part of your pledge simply treat the cost of the miniature as a value in Rings. For example, Kir Nunnost is £3 and can be added to your pledge at a cost of 3 Rings.
Because of the variation in size of pledges and locations we aren't able to offer postage as part of the campaign. Instead once your pledge is ready to ship you will be emailed an invoice with the relevant amount of postage. The chart below shows the cost of postage at the time of launch and can be used to anticipate costs. Note that these prices may rise due to circumstances beyond our control:
Please note that mounted miniatures can be substantially heavier than miniatures on foot! The quantity of miniatures estimated above assumes a weight of 20g per miniature, some are lighter than this, some are heavier. The above rates include an amount to cover packaging and Paypal fees.
The Woods is a scaleable miniatures game that works as an RPG, skirmish game and mass-combat wargame. These miniatures have been designed for this setting but can be used for any miniatures games. A The Woods rulebook can be added to your pledge for 20 Rings.

Kickstarter makes sense for the small business. Getting moulds made is relatively expensive so a Kickstarter can be structured to ensure pledges cover the cost of the moulds required. The majority of our miniatures are sent out through Kickstarter campaigns and the platform has a much higher exposure than our own social media. We do, however, release small batches of miniatures through our online shop occasionally, so keep an eye out there for new products. All funds received from Kickstarters are put back into the business paying for rulebook printing, artwork and master moulds for future releases so every penny pledged will be helping to keep Oakbound's vision of The Woods alive and kicking!
Risks and challenges
This is our sixth miniatures Kickstarter, following five successfully funded campaigns. All the miniatures in the original set for this campaign have had master moulds made and are ready to roll into production, those miniatures added as stretch goals are sculpted and awaiting master moulding. We are working with Macrocosm again on this project as they are very experienced and reliable mouldmakers and casters. They also have the benefit of being local to us so we don't have to worry about masters being damaged or lost in transit! Our past four Kickstarters have been fulfilled on or ahead of time and we do not anticipate any problems with this one. However, this is a larger campaign than those we have undertaken recently and with the best will in the world things can go wrong. We have given a long fulfilment time and expect to be posting pledges out well before February 2020 but should there be any problems this window will give us space to fix them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
