About this project
Demi: Labyrinth of the Gods is a cooperative game where each player takes on the role of a modern day demigod (there are eight to choose from). These 2-4 players must then work together to navigate a labyrinth that shifts and changes as you play, while trying to accomplish the task of finding three ancient artifacts the gods have demanded in order to prove your worth and gain access to the exit - but there's a catch! This labyrinth is filled with mythic monsters and traps...
The game itself is done. The mechanics have been heavily tested and an algorithm was created to allow for mathematically balanced game-play which has helped us create a game that can be a challenge to overcome while still providing multiple ways to do so. Sometimes, the game is simply going to win - that happens! It'll be up to you and your friends to make the decisions that ultimately see you through to the end.
We need your help finalizing the artwork, and getting our game to the manufacturer so that we can put it in your hands and on store shelves. Take a look below for some of the great artwork, more information about gameplay, voting rights and what that entails for those who pledge at higher levels!
The sons and daughters of Zeus, Athena, Hephaestus, Apollo, Hades, Hermes, Ares and Poseidon have all received invites to a location known as "The Labyrinth". You can read more about how they received those invites on our site, HERE!
Once you all enter The Labyrinth with the characters you've chosen, you'll work together to locate the three artifacts that will grant you exit from the maze while fighting your way through monsters that have been locked down there for centuries, and doing what you can to avoid the deadly traps they've taken care to set up for you. They're quite angry about their confinement, and the gods have promised them freedom should they defeat you...
Each room is represented by a tile, as shown in the video above. We don't have artwork for these tiles yet - that's part of why we need your help! When you enter a room, you turn over that tile, and choose how to orient it. When you do so, the room you came from shifts - the Labyrinth is ever in motion, and a more difficult room takes it's place. Take care that you don't have to backtrack! Once complete, you'll draw an Encounter for that room. Maybe you'll get lucky and simply find resources; or maybe you'll find a hungry chimera...
Once you reach the other end, you'll be able to claim an ancient artifact. These artifacts have special abilities, such as the Daedelus' Wings that Alexis uses in the video above to bypass a bottomless pit that would otherwise have killed the party.
There are only four levels within the labyrinth - if you find yourselves exiting a level 4 room and have to upgrade it, you actually remove the entire stack of tiles from the table altogether. That area of the labyrinth becomes a bottomless pit, making navigation all the more treacherous as the party will fall to their death if forced to enter without supernatural aid. Think ahead, rather than rushing aimlessly through, when you get to the later stages of the game!
Throughout the journey to acquire the three artifacts, you'll be able to enhance your gear, use special character abilities (they're demigods, after all!) and give gifts to the gods with resources you find for boons in return (such as healing, or extra attack power).
To exemplify this, take a look at Holden above. He has three attributes: Offense, Defense, and Speed. He's a pretty solid guy and his defense reflects this. Like the other characters, he also has three abilities. He can use the Guardian ability any time it's applicable, as it is free. If he wants to use his his Fortified ability, he'll need to discard 1 Gold and 1 Herb resource cards. Later in the game, after leveling up his weapon or armor (more on this later), he'll unlock his Fate ability. Fate is fickle, and this is represented by flipping a coin. If the flip succeeds, Holden will be able to absorb damage for an ally, as he moves to protect them. If the flip fails, he fumbles his attempt and the ally actually takes some extra damage that was meant for Holden...
Each character has their own interesting abilities, and we'll be spotlighting more of these as the campaign progresses!
We've got a lot of great artwork - but it's not done! The card text is ready and playtested, but we still need artwork for room tiles, additional monsters, weapons, armor, and elixirs before we're ready to head to manufacturing. By pledging, you'll also get access to some of that great artwork to use as desktop wallpaper as soon as the campaign finishes!
Once we finish commissioning the artwork we will be set to send everything off to a manufacturer. We're already in talks and know what to expect with regards to time frames, and have created our pledge goals to adhere to those. The games will be delivered in summer of 2015!
Below is a closer look at the eight playable characters you'll have to choose from. Take a look!
THANKS - Every pledge tier above this includes this! Our thanks, mention on the site, artwork to download, and a high five if you see us at any of the many gaming conventions throughout the years to come! Basically it means that you rock, and the thanks on our site will ensure that this fact is never forgotten.
GAMER - You get a copy of the game! You also get the THANKS reward tier!
VOTER - In addition to the GAMER reward, you'll also be able to vote on the Kickstarter Exclusive content we'll be unveiling further into the campaign. Additional characters, monsters, and boss monsters are all potential content and we'll let the community decide on the final versions of them! You'll also receive your name in the manual and on our website as a Voter.
PRODUCER - In addition to the VOTER reward, you will also receive the first expansion to Demi: Labyrinth of the Gods for free! If that expansion includes Exclusive content, your Voting Rights count toward that as well! You'll also receive your name in the manual, and on our website, as a producer.
ASSOCIATE PRODUCER - In addition to the PRODUCER reward, you will be able to register on the official Three Guys Gaming Forum when it launches in Summer, 2015. The ASSOCIATE PRODUCER Forum Badge will grant you access to the private Voting Forum. You'll have the ability to help shape all of our future games regardless of whether or not you purchase them at that time, as every game will include community input of some kind. Your credit in the manual and on the website will be as an Associate Producer.
EXECUTIVE PRODUCER - In addition to the ASSOCIATE PRODUCER reward, you will also receive one FREE copy of each Core game (does not include expansions, with the exception of the first expansion to Demi: Labyrinth of the Gods) that Three Guys Gaming creates moving forward. You will be credited in the manual and on the website will be as an Executive Producer.
DEMIGOD - You're as close to a demigod as we can achieve in these modern times. One or all of us will come visit you at any major city in the continental U.S. (subject to personal schedules). When we do so, we'll bring the game with us to hand deliver to you. We'll high five you in person, so that you don't have to visit a gaming convention to seek that out. We'll take you out to dinner (you can choose where, within reason, since you know the area) and afterwards we'll play Demi: Labyrinth of the Gods with you and yours! We may play other boardgames too - we like games. When we leave, we'll high five you again, just to drive the point home that you're awesome. We'll then post the pictures we took while we played the game with you on social media, and talk about how awesome you are.
So far we've brought on three great artists. Check out their portfolios by clicking below:
Risks and challenges
The game is done. The only real risks at this point are delays in getting the product in your hands. There are two things that could cause a delay:
1.) Artwork Delays - Obviously we cannot send off the game to the manufacturer until all of the artwork is ready. As this Kickstarter is seeking to finish funding the artwork, we then have to wait for the artists to actually do it. A delay may occur. While we fully intend to work with our artists to ensure that the job is completed in a timely manner, life happens.
2.) Manufacturing Delays - As we will be working with a manufacturing company, there is the potential that something will happen at their facility that will cause a delay in production of our product. We will do everything we can to ensure they ship on time, but a delay on the manufacturing end is a possibility. If a delay becomes something significant and the manufacturer will be unable to proceed, we will work with other manufacturers we have already communicated with to ensure production - this will not cause a price change for anybody who pledged. Regardless, it will ship in the end!
3.) Extra Shipping Fees - Our pledge tiers (which can no longer be altered) state that shipping will be calculated upon completion of the campaign - and that's still true. However, we will never charge more than $10 for Domestic, and $30 for International shipping. Ever. Furthermore, if when it comes time to ship, the costs are less than that, we'll return the difference to you - we will never make a profit on shipping!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
