Frequently Asked Questions
We know this game is not cheap, but there are very good reasons for it.
First and crucial is of course the cost of electronics. Each module contains an integrated circuit with 8-bit processor and inside the ARC there are two processors, one of them 32-bit, plus NFC reader and bluetooth module. The cost of electronic components consist more that half of the game price (you read it right, not the production cost but half of the final price).
It’s also because the parts have to be of certain quality - this game it meant to last. As you can probably see, we provide a two year warranty, so we have to be sure of the product high quality.
Furthermore, the whole production of the game is made in Europe and in the USA, because we decided that the parts have to be produced with possibly minimal carbon footprint and in fair wages/conditions. Due to that reasons we decided that import of cheaper parts from China is not an option.
Another reason is that the core box contains complete game, that was not cut into multiple pieces to pretend to be add-ons, goals or expansions. There is no cheaper smaller version, because it would decrease the gaming experience, and the game would not be the same.Last updated:
The you will just contact us, and we will send you a new part that you need.
There is a two year warranty, so we are prepared to replace any potential malfunctioning parts (although we do our best to expect it to be rather extremely exceptional cases). And after that we will provide you support, helpdesk and spare parts delivery. We have experience from producing and selling highly specialized hardware for many years.Last updated:
Most probably in the future there will be some. But currently we are not making plans for them.
First, because we need to focus on producing complete and balanced game, not planning that any part of it will be filled/fixed/changed in the future.
Second, is that we want you to decide what expansions you want. After you receive the game and start building your colonies, all our backers will be asked for opinions on which direction you want the game to be expanded.Last updated:
The companion app will be supported and updated for many years. With every new version of iOS or Android you will be able to download and install updated app. In this way you will also receive updates in case of any need of game software improvement.
Also, we are planning additional version of Companion App (beside of iOS / Android) on Steam for PC platform.
In case of any unforseen future we will do more: APK (Android executable file) will be available for manual download and redistribution from first day of deliveries, and we will keep updating it with new versions. We are planning on giving our full description of our API (Application Protocol Interface) responsible for “talking” with our hardware via Bluetooth, so creation of third party apps will be possible.Last updated:
There is only a certain safe number of copies that we are 100% certain that will be produced and delivered properly. Its ofcourse the production complexity that causes the limits of production capabilities. Let us use an example: if there are 32 CPUs in each box, then for each 1000 boxes we need to get 30 thousands processors of certain quality and price, which will significantly limit the market options.
And we will not risk anything that we could endanger our capability to deliver everything in time.Last updated:
The companion app is necessary to play this game, as the colony simulation is an essential part of it. Although any Android or iOS device will work, essentially almost every phone or tablet.Last updated:
They are a set of unique cards. The cards are all new in the sense of artwork, flavour text, and card name.
They are mixing the same basic mechanical effects so it will not unbalance the deck, and you'll just see more of the same effects in different combos.
But if you are into more story driven game or even half-roleplaying, then they will add a lot of fun.Last updated:
What about the batteries - What's the battery life? will the batteries be rechargeable or are we expected to replace them?
The central ARC module is used to power the whole colony, it contains four standard AA batteries. Of course you can use rechargeable ones, it’s even strongly advised to do so.
Its enough for three or four long intensive games (or five standard ones). It is going to be a bit better as optimization is still ahead of us.
You can replace them - it will be comparably easy as to changing the batteries in a TV remote: remove top cap of central module, remove old batteries, put new ones inside, close cap. Simple!Last updated:
Here is the detailed procedure:
1. Choose you pledge and the add-ons
2. Calculate the price of add-ons of your choice
3. Click your pledge and type the sum of your pledge + your add-ons.
(For instance: "Colonist" + 1 game mat + extra cards -> you select "Colonist" pledge and type in $285 ($225 + $30 + $30).
4. Chosen add-ons should then be marked in the Pledge Manager after campaign ends.Last updated:
If you want to get 4 boxes instead of one (perhaps your friends want to make a group pledge with one shipping fee): You just need to change your pledge: Click "Manage your pledge" button on the top of the page, change your pledge (the sum will be automatically changed), add amount of money for the add-ons of your choice and click "Continue".
If you want to add one or two boxes to your Smugglers Load $800 pledge, you follow what we called the Extended Smuggles Load Procedure:
1. You back a Smugglers Load 800$ pledge.
2. you contact us (email: email@example.com) and inform that you want to add one more box
3. we confirm
4. You add additional $200 to your pledge
5. You will inform the Pledge Manager after the campaign and we will confirm.
6. You get 5 boxes
7. we are all happy
It works up to 7 boxes, then we prefer that it should be two Smugglers Load $800 pledges from two backers, if it’s not a problem (if it is, we will figure out something).
If you want to add one or two boxes to you Colonist 225$ pledge, you do the same procedure - we need to get the email and confirm that we booked the additional boxes.Last updated:
We cannot guarantee that there will be additional boxes available after Kickstarter campaign via Late Pledge Manager.
We are going to start manufacture immediately after Kickstarter (from December) to insure delivery in time. We have to have certainty that quantities will be final, as we got to order all electronic parts as soon as possible. Because of that we cannot guarantee that Late Pledge Manager will have available boxes, and if any of those are going to be available - definitely will be limited in numbers.
Beside of that, there is much smaller risk with all add-on's - those should be available for a longer time period.Last updated:
