Fightlings is a hybrid of classic pair-matching games and modern card battler mechanics. The result is a unique living card game that rewards memory, planning, and adaptability. The game features tons of different Champions, Fightlings & Minions, a big bunch of tokens and loads of fun.

Step 1: Deck Building
After choosing a faction, players build decks of 17 cards each. Decks must have one Champion pair, at least 2 Minion pairs, and enough Fightling and Effect cards to make a total of 17.
Step 2: Setting up the Board
Both decks are shuffled together and placed in a 5x7 formation, with a single wild card added to complete the 35-card board. 2 Minion Cards of each faction are turned face-up in the middle column.
Step 3: Uncovering Pairs
Players take turns uncovering cards three at a time in an attempts to match pairs to unlock new effects and combat powers. By uncovering a pair, the player is allowed to uncover an additional card.
Uncovered effects have an immediate influence on the game.
Once a pair is matched, it goes to the corresponding player's Creature Zone, and the creature's ability is triggered. There are various abilities, ranging from direct damage, peeking, granting Victory Points, and shuffling the field to more sophisticated combo effects. The kinds of abilities and strategies you unlock depend on creature and faction.
Step 4: Fighting
The moment a player has creatures in his or her Creature Zone, he can start attacking his enemy player or their creatures. As every creature comes with Victory Points, which only count if the creature is still alive at the end of the match, defeating enemy creatures can be a path to defeating the opponent.
Step 5: Winning
The game ends when any of the following conditions are met:
- A player loses all his or her health,
- a player has 15 Victory Point Tokens, or
- there are no cards left on the board.
In our test matches, all three end conditions were frequently achievable, and offered valid strategies for different playstyles.
Here's a quick rundown of the game from The Game Pit Podcast:
Here's a full playthrough from Hunter & Cron (in German):
Please note: these rules are still changing as we continue to tweak the game. Your feedback is very welcome!
The basic game includes two full decks, 70+ punched cardboard tokens, 4 wild cards, and a rulebook in a full-color box.
If stretch goals are unlocked, all copies of the base game will include additional cards and other items (unless otherwise stated in the stretch goal).
New: The "You Asked For It" Bundle!
Due to popular demand, we've introduced the following new reward tier, which includes one copy of the base game, a custom gaming mat, upgraded health tokens, the digital art book, and your name in the rule book:
Also: if you've chosen the "I Hate My Table" perk, you can now add €30 to your pledge to get a second gaming mat. Note that this ONLY applies to the "I Hate My Table" perk!
Here's a full rundown of all the other perks available to our backers:
Ever wondered what you would look like if you were a champion? Take a look at this example:
We've narrowed our gaming mat designs down to four options, and we thought it would only be fair to let you decide which one it should be!
Click here to choose your favorite background design. (Note: the actual mat may look a bit different in the end, depending on balancing changes to the game, but the background chosen by you will be final).
UPDATE: NOVEMBER 10TH – Thanks to your feedback, we've already added new backer perks (the aptly named "You Asked For It" bundle) as well as a ton of information to our campaign. Now, once again, we're taking your feedback to heart. How, exactly? Well, many of you suggested we offer more with our early stretch goals.
We're very excited to announce a brand-new stretch goal: if we reach €13000, the game will include a third faction (40+ cards) for all backers!
The Purple faction features creatures from the Clan of the Ancient, Clan of Phantoms, and Clan of the Grave. These clans use arcane and powerful spells to wake the dead, summon illusions, and turn the tide of battle.
If you've already backed the campaign, let your friends know about this new stretch goal. And if you haven't now is the perfect time!
While creating the mobile version of Fightlings, we did a lot of playtesting. We started with a paper prototype and several analog versions of the game. At every playtest - even later when the digital game was fully playable - we were approached by tons of players asking whether there would be a "real" card game at some point in time.
With your help, we want to make that happen!
With Fightlings: The Card Game we preserved some core mechanics of the digital version, and both games share some artwork. But in all other regards, we built it from scratch, to really cater to the needs of an analog card game.
If you are interested in the mobile version of Fightlings, it is currently in soft launch. The game has already won numerous accolades, and will be launched in an increasing number of territories over the coming months.
The Fightlings mobile game is available in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Poland. If you're in one of those countries, you can download and play the game at the following links. Have fun!
“adds an interesting, real-world twist to the normal CCG formula”
“Fightlings could be the Pokemon Go we actually wanted”
"Vor allem das Sammelkarten-Prinzip kombiniert mit den PVP-Duellen ist spannend und macht Lust darauf, ständig mehr und bessere Kreaturen freizuspielen."
Risiken und Herausforderungen
As with nearly every board game project on Kickstarter, our biggest challenges are production and shipping. We have done a tremendous amount of research on costs and risks for game production in Europe and worldwide, and have several options in place based on the total funding we receive:
- If the campaign is funded at a modest level, the game will be produced by one of several European producers, and all shipping will be handled by our in-house team.
- If it is funded at a larger scale, we will be producing the game via Panda (a Chinese production company with extensive experience and a proven track record in the industry), and handling fulfillment either by a mix of our in-house team and fulfillment centers (for moderate funding) or entirely through fulfillment centers (for large-scale funding).
Our first project, Fayre of the Forgotten, launched in early 2016. Despite positive reviews and feedback about the game's design, it did not have a sufficiently large community in place to reach its funding goal.
With Fightlings, we have been growing our community over the past 1.5 years, primarily around our mobile game of the same name. We understand that mobile and tabletop games are fundamentally different, but we believe there are many people who, like us, are fans of both. We have worked diligently to design this tabletop edition from the ground up, and while it shares artwork and some game mechanics with the mobile edition, it is truly its own completely-realized game.Näheres zur Rechenschaftspflicht auf Kickstarter
