We are excited to make your acquaintance and would love to take a moment to introduce ourselves. We, Jake and Naomi, are an ambitious and inquisitive pair of game developers and together we make Thorny Wench Game Studios. This Kickstarter is to purchase the initial inventory for Thorny Wench Game Studio's four finished games, so that we may distribute them nation wide and make them available for on-line purchasing.
(Click on the title of the games for a teaser video of each!)
Dragoonium (2-9 players ages 14 and up)
When you play Dragoonium you take on the role of one of the great champions of the Realms. Each of these champions brings its own unique set of powers and resources. Inspired by many classic card games of yesteryear and combined with fantastical flavoring and style, Dragoonium is a game adults can interest both their teenagers and parents in playing. It is a different game each time, as the cards played with are dependent on the chosen champions. Almost 200 unique cards and 9 different champions, creates versatility and several strategic playing styles. Can you devise the best strategy with the available pool of cards to conquer your opponent? Which Champion will you bring to the table?
Dragoonium was born during a weekend long thunderstorm. Confined to their tent for the majority of their camping trip, Thorny Wench creators, Naomi and Jake, entertained the hours with a deck of cards. After the marathon of classic card games, boredom ensued. Jake decided to spice up their game play by expanding the rules of these games. Suddenly the games evolved into one entirely new game. Naomi, inspired by Jake’s genius, added additional elements, mechanics and story to the game. In under a year, Dragoonium was a complete and self published game which has been enjoyed by many.
The objective of Dragoonium is to be the player with the most gold. Gold is obtained by exchanging the cards in your hand to score matching number sets and matching color sets placed in numeric order. When discarding a card, be wary of the text. This action often takes place upon discard. These actions can come in handy, resulting in stealing gold or cards and other potentially beneficial obstacles to ensnare your opponents or there is the possibility they will prove difficult for you as well. At the end of the round add up the gold remaining in your score pile. The bottom of each card has a gold value to assist in scoring. Deal out again and repeat play until someone has achieved or surpassed the designated allotted gold.
Corruption (2-5 players ages 14 and up)
Corruption will strike the fancy of political passionates! As a major global organization, nothing stands in the way of unlimited profits, except...a few government regulations. Use your vast wealth and influence to bend politicians to your will. Buy, bribe, cheat, steal and undermine your opponents as you try to gain the most profits. Using political antics and schemes, players will compete to influence the passing of bills, votes and ensure their favorite politicians are elected. No matter your political stances and differences, all parties will agree this is a fun game!
Corruption was inspired during election season. When everyone’s stances differ and emotions are high, sometimes it’s nice to all get together and create a little light-hearded fun. When everyone laughs at themselves and can relate to the frustration and love of politics it brings uniformity.
Each player will play as a corporation fostering particular political priorities such as Healthcare, Finance, Military, Foreign Affairs and Education. Each Bill will give benefits to those specific legislations. Use your vast wealth and influence to bend politicians to your will. Buy, bribe, cheat, steal and undermine your opponents as you try to gain the most profits. Each round consists of turn taking, placing Lobby Tokens on politicians to sway their vote regarding certain bills. Using political antics and schemes, players will compete to influence the passing of bill. The winner is the corporation to have the most money at the end of the game.
Stellar Express (2-5 players ages 14 and up)
You are a trader for a vast planetary network in a distant solar system. Gather the resources you need to complete a goal, take it to the assigned planet, get paid. Simple, yes? It would be, but the solar system actually revolves each turn, creating an engaging and fast-paced quest for each player to embark! Keep tabs on the elaborate orbits and fictitious set of planets before you run out of fuel, resources or encounter another character that may get in your way.Jacob Schenk created the beginning concepts of the game in an afternoon, using a large rpg grid and some meeples he picked and grabbed from old games we didn’t play. The distinguishing aspect to Stellar Express is that the planets actually orbit every round! This is something that sets it apart from other space trading and resource collecting games.
The objective of Stellar Express is to gain the most victory points by completing missions. The game ends once a set amount of victory points is achieved during game play. Collect missions at star bases and transport resources from those star bases to planets. Reach the planets before you run out of fuel. Expand your fuel and other ship’s needs by hiring crew and purchasing ship modifications. Every round of turns triggers the orbit of the planets. Calculate the distance in your head, creating strategies to get to your destination in time!
Wacky Willy's Word Warehouse (3-5 players ages 12 and up)
Greetings! My name's ...well...my friends call me "Wacky Willy," we'll see if you get that privilege. Ya-wanna help me in my warehouse? I'll need players..err…Wordsmiths to help complete my Word-o-grams so that we can manufacture amazingly enthralling stories. Gather round a table…err..assembly line. Do you think you have what it takes to make the cut as the best Wordsmith? If so, I might promote you in my Warehouse to Wordsmithing Supervisor.
Wacky Willy’s Word Warehouse is based off of a game that Naomi Bielefeldt Schenk, Thorny Wench Artistic Marketing Director, created when she was in middle school on notebook paper. It entertained many slumber parties in Naomi’s adolescence and hours of giggles. After their first game, Naomi decided she could adapt this paper and pen silly game of hers and morph it into an expansive party game for a variety of ages.
The objective of Wacky Willy’s Word Warehouse is to complete your Word-O-Gram before your opponents and read aloud the ridiculous story it manufactured. Word-O-Grams are ridiculous stories with missing components, Who, what, When, Where and Why. Each player will get a complete 5-set of each of the Word-O-Gram’s missing categories. Category cards are to be kept separately. Wordsmiths will take turns rolling the die which will determine which category is played that round. The category will display an unrelated question in which you compete for the best answer. The winning Wordsmith of that round gets to add the answer to their Word-O-Gram in the matching category. Once they have one of each category, the Word-O-Gram’s story will be readable and complete. If a player gets 5 of the same category they may trade 4 in to get one they are missing. Remember, the goal in playing cards is not only to get picked but mainly to complete your Word-O-Gram, so choose cards that will impress your opponents but also play well with your story.
