I am Tom Griffiths and I'm a 19 year old student from North Wales in the United Kingdom. Out of the 19 years of my life on this earth, 18 of them have been with my brother, Owen, who suffers from Autism. When he was a child the various professionals on this subject told my mother that he would never be able to speak. Now, at 18, he can speak, read and write in multiple languages. He's also excelled enormously in technical skills using computers. Yet despite all of this crazy talent he has, he can't grasp communication skills and struggles in formal environments of the real world, requiring my mum to look after his 24/7. My brother has fascinated me greatly and so does the millions of other cases of Autism there is.
However over the years I've witnessed the effects that the condition has had on my brother and the rest of my family. Also, I have met many other families who have their very own stories and experiences to share on this mysterious condition that we are still learning about. It is something that has both flaws and massive positives.
I want to create a documentary that delves into what Autism is and how badly it can affect an individual and their close family. I want to explore the history of the disorder as well as the future of it, seeing how it's developed throughout the years what we, charity wise and scientifically, are striving to do and what we are accomplishing.
I ask for your donation in order for me to afford transport and equipment to complete this project to the level that I wish I can. I will need to travel to visit sources for interviews and information along with renting equipment for the project. I have a small group of people who are willing to help me further this ambition of mine and I hope that you will also support me!
ANY MONEY LEFT OVER FROM THE PROJECT AT ALL WILL BE HAPPILY DONATED TO THE NATIONAL AUTISTIC SOCIETY.
Risks and challenges
If anything negative is to arise, I feel I am able to overcome it. I hope that all necessary steps are taken beforehand to avoid obstacles.
We might struggle to reach the goal of completion in January 2016 any severe weather halts our transport or we experience problems with our equipment. Everyone interviewed within the project will be made to sign model release forms to avoid later setbacks however if someone with an extraordinary story does not want to be filmed, we will make sure their identities are kept safe.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
