Kids' travel series - book 2: Lily Huckleberry in JAPAN!
The second book of a whimsical travel series for little wanderers - a story full of bravery, laughter, and cultural discovery!
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Sat, June 8 2019 3:55 PM UTC +00:00.
Hello beautiful world! Lily Huckleberry is a ready for a brand new adventure :) After her first journey through Scandinavia, our brave girl goes to Japan when the cherry blossoms are in full swing. But when she arrives, a magical dragon gets broken and a spell falls over the land of the rising sun.
As she travels around the islands of Japan to solve the mystery, Lily meets a silly bunch of characters who help her along the way. A charming Maneki Neko (Lucky Cat) and goofy sumo wrestler teach her about Japanese culture. She catches a ride with a flock of origami animals, and encounters some very dramatic ninjas. We can't wait to introduce you and your kiddos to Lily's new friends!
In this book, kids learn with Lily that sometimes you have to get lost to find your way, and that what makes you different is what makes you beautiful.
At the end of the book children will find a colorful map of Japan, some surprise games and a page of fun facts about Japanese culture. With these extra pages our little readers can deepen their reading & knowledge of Japan.
The Adventures of Lily Huckleberry are award-winning stories for your little explorers that weave together imagination & cultural discovery, bravery & laughter, beautiful artwork, & the spirit of adventure. We recently won a Benjamin Franklin Publishing Award for "Best New Voice in Children's Books" and are thrilled to add another book to our series.
These stories follow Lily Huckleberry, a spunky, curious girl, as she travels around the world. In the first book, our readers discovered that Lily is a member of a secret adventure society and owns a magic globe that takes her on wild adventures around the world. In each book of the series, Lily travels to a new place, learning about the culture and it's beautiful people and traditions.
If you want to raise a child who is brave + adventurous + curious about the world, Lily's adventures are for you. We love adding layers into our stories, hiding jokes for adults and surprises for kids. And while we originally created this series for kids age 5-8, we've LOVED hearing that kids age 2-10 adore Lily and her silly friends.
Our goals for this book series:
- Show kids the beauty + diversity of this world: We think it is important for kids to learn about other cultures, and that the more they understand and celebrate our differences, the better humans they become. We hope they grow up eager to explore this big, beautiful world.
- Model a brave female role model for both girls + boys: There aren't enough strong female role models in kids' literature, and we want Lily to be a character kids look up to and admire.
- Create a society of little explorers: We love when kids see life as one big adventure, and are dreaming that our Worldwide Adventure Society will connect curious spirits all over the globe. Let's explore the world together!
- Cultivate kids’ imaginations: We have a blast weaving legends and cultural quirks, secret tunnels and rainbow bridges into our whimsical tales. We hope Lily's stories help kids see that a mundane moment can be turned into a wild adventure...if you only add a little imagination.

11. Classroom pack
We want to share Lily with schools! In this package, you will receive a book + patch of Lily's adventures in Japan for each child in your classroom, and a large "Adventures Await!" print. 12. Hand-painted mural by Audrey in your child's room
Because every kid needs to be able to dream big! For this reward, Audrey will help you add color + fun in your house by painting a custom, colorful mural on a wall in your child's room. (Up to 12 feet wide x10 feet tall. US domestic flight included, but you will be responsible for lodging)
A note about shipping + customs for our international customers: We are happy to spread the Lily love worldwide and ship to you. We try to keep shipping costs as low as we can for each country...some countries do end up being expensive, we wished we could send your prizes via magic mail ;) All backers are responsible to pay any customs fee their country might charge - not a lot do, but we know for a fact from our last campaign that Scandinavian countries, sometimes the UK as well as Spain do. We just want to give you the heads up - we'd hate for you to be surprised!
We need your help to print the first 3,000 copies of the book, get an ISBN, hire an editor & make sure we get the book in tip top shape for printing.
And we'll be working with amazing partners, like Backerkit, to make sure your rewards get to you easily and efficiently! Boom ;)
