This is Our Story.
Dear Kickstarter Fans, wanna help us give birth to a new winery? We are in start-up mode of creating our future in running a small winery.
Here's the deal...We hope you find our project worthy of your support; we can’t do it alone.
It takes the TLC of a farmer to produce exceptional vineyards to make spectacular wines folks! Funding for the grapes is only a fraction of our start-up costs, but we believe paying our farmers is the most important of them all. With our Kickstarter Fund - we will pay our Farmers First!
The farmers and their vineyards are spread among the precious AVA’s of Northern California. We are proud to say that each of these vineyards is family owned...here's what we are purchasing for our first vintage this year:
- Sauvignon Blanc: 6 tons, Sonoma Mountain AVA, The Morris Family
- Semillon: 2 tons, Sonoma Mountain AV, The Morris Family
- Chardonnay: 4 tons, Sonoma Coast AVA, The Hybiske Family
- 4 tons Sonoma Coast AVA, The Klopp Family
- 2 tons Russian
River Valley AVA, The Moore Family
- 2 tons Anderson Valley AVA, The Hall Family
We hope to also make Cabernet Sauvignon but are currently hesitating to move forward with a vineyard due to funding (Cabernet grapes are the MOST expensive of all). Oh but we are getting close...
Other approx: start-up costs we are incurring THIS Harvest add up to more than $80,000+...
- Federal Compliance Permits and Licenses
- Winemaker Consulting Fees (they are worth even more!)
- Custom Crush Facility Fees - Vinify is also family owned!
- Old Wine Barrels, New Wine Barrels, Stainless Steele Barrels & BUNGS of course!
- Gas in the car (have you noticed Gas prices in Cali?!) so we can check all out vineyards each week.
- Picking Bins for the Grapes.
- Transporting Pinot Noir grapes from Anderson Valley after harvest.
- Web design, labels, packaging, bottles, corks...shipping boxes.
Harvest 2014 is our very first vintage.
This is NOT a vanity project, starting a small family winery is our dream, our passion, our future, Our Business. We are using our life savings (and future income) to work with the best young winemakers around & hope to raise funds for help with our vineyard contracts (for our Northern California grape growers).

A Bit of History or “Why we know our stuff!”
With a combined 30+ years in the wine industry, both of us have full-time jobs in the wine business working for family owned businesses. We've both helped sell and market hundreds of small production wines made by folks like us so we're intimately familiar with the business. Our passion is the story behind the wines, the people, the places where the fruit comes from, and the authenticity of the family operated businesses.
We can't wait to begin telling Our Story
It's our hope to make Smith Story Wine Cellars successful from the start and create full time careers for our own family business in the years to follow.
Thank you for taking the time to read about us and listen to Our Story. We ask that you support us with a donation and help to spread the word about our start-up needs this summer. Our farmers & grape growers are golden and we want to support their year-long efforts in the vineyards with prompt payments!
Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing model; if we don’t reach our goal by the end of the fundraiser, your account will not be charged and we won’t receive any funding.
To pledge to a project, just click the green “Back This Project” button on this page. You will be asked to input your pledge amount and select a reward. From there, you will go through the Amazon checkout process. Note that you must finish the Amazon checkout process for your support to be recorded. Again, some people run into trouble completing their donation—If you encounter a problem, please contact us at email@example.com
Drink what you love, love what you drink. This is Our Story.

Risks and challenges
Our BIGGEST challenge is funding. Our business plan is solid and is already being executed successfully, due in large part to our credibility and experience in the wine business. The project is in full swing and nothing will stop Smith Story Wine Cellars.
It takes a small village to make a single bottle of wine, we are working mindfully to make sure our village is full of people that share our same spirit and passion.
Our passion and determination are fueling our new beginnings!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
