Arts@Renaissance presents Third Rail Projects' Then She Fell, a new, full-length, immersive theater experience located inside the former outpatient building of what was once the Greenpoint Hospital in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Premiering October 6th, 2012, and performed for only 15 audience members per show.
In this fully immersive, multi-sensory experience, audience members explore a dreamlike world where every alcove and corridor of the space has been transformed. Inspired by the site's history and the life and writings of Lewis Carroll, Then She Fell is designed to create an 'Alice-like' experience for audience members, who get to discover hidden scenes, encounter performers one-on-one, unearth clues to illuminate a shrouded history, use skeleton keys to gain access to guarded secrets, and imbibe elixirs custom designed by some of NYC's foremost mixologists and crafted from hand-selected champagnes, teas, wines, herbs and infusions.
To bring this performance space to life, we need your help! We need to raise $4,500 to buy props, set pieces, and ephemera to transform 18 rooms of this former hospital space into an ongoing series of lushly designed installation and performance environments.
Third Rail Projects is a Bessie Award-winning, multi-disciplinary performance company led by Artistic Directors Zach Morris, Tom Pearson, and Jennine Willett. We makes site-specific performances in public spaces, dance/theater works, gallery art installations, immersive experiences, and we are the creators of the Lower East Side's critically acclaimed Steampunk Haunted House.
Then She Fell is our most ambitious project to date. We are combining all of the media we work in: theater, dance, site-specific performance, immersive experiences, and art installation in order to self-produce this unique performance event. We are excited to collaborate with an incredible group of artists: performers Elizabeth Carena, Alberto Denis, Rebekah Morin, Tara O'Con, Marissa Nielsen-Pincus, and Zoe Scheiber; Production Manager/Event Producer Debra Stunich; Sound Designer and Composer Sean Hagerty; Environment & Interactive Design Consultant Christopher Cummings; Costume Designer Karen Young; Lighting Design Consultant Kryssy Wright; Beverage Consultant Sarah Sutel; Assistant Stage Manager and Performer Stacie C. Fields; and Collaborating Musicians Brian Olin and Isaiah Singer.
Show tickets are not yet available, but will be in early Fall, and preview performance tickets will be available later in Summer. Kickstarter backers will be alerted before tickets go on sale.
The Greenpoint Hospital closed in 1982.
St. Nicks Alliance and Greenpoint Renaissance Enterprise Corporation formed a coalition to preserve the seven buildings of the former hospital for community use. Four of the buildings were developed by St. Nicks for affordable housing, the 5th remains a homeless shelter with 90 beds, the 6th is the Greenpoint Renaissance Center which houses A@R and St. Nicks administrative offices. The 7th building and the lot remain in dispute.
Arts@Renaissance is an innovative 4,500 square foot arts space in the restored outpatient building of the Greenpoint Hospital that serves asa bridge between North Brooklyn’s vibrant long-term communities andthe area’s emerging creative population through the development of new multi-disciplinary work, residencies, workshops, and collaborativeneighborhood art projects.

No. Then She Fell is a brand new immersive theater performance. In many ways it is a culmination of the explorations we've been doing with immersive performance and environmental installation over the last four years. We have always wanted to create a work where our audiences could really explore the immersive worlds we create, giving a deeper experience then the short duration experience that is necessitated by a haunted house format. While Then She Fell is not a haunted house, it is an expanded, deepened, more complex, more lavish iteration of the immersive theatrical experiences that our audiences have come to love in the Haunted Houses of years past. In 2012, "Then She Fell" will be Third Rail's main production and will also be performed in lieu of their annual Steampunk Haunted House during the month of October.
