Laurel & Wes & The Young Fables Team
Greetings from The Young Fables in Music City, USA!
We are Laurel Wright and Wesley Lunsford. And we make original country music. But making music these days takes more than talent, drive, and hard work; it takes money. We need the help of our friends to fund our newest album. And for our friends, both current and future, we promise to not disappoint.
Country music has been coursing through our veins ever since we were kids growing up in Maryville, Tennessee. When we moved to Nashville, we were determined to play every gig we could find, so we could get our music out there and be heard. We would play for anyone willing to listen! We even cut a full length demo entitled "Two". And from that, we gained thousands of fans and met many inspiring fellow artists who were making music and living the dream day in and day out.
In our time in Music City, we have seen country music grow further and further away from the country music we listened to as kids. “Bro Country” and “Southern Pop” music is everywhere. But the traditional country sound that evokes memories of front porch storytelling over classic country instrumentation, like mandolin, fiddle, pedal steel, and banjo, is becoming harder and harder to find. This is the sound that we aspire to create. This is the sound that helped give us our name.
The Young Fables is an ode to our grandparents with whom we have shared many a front porch session, singing the classics, sharing stories of life’s ups and downs, and collecting material for what would become our catalog and signature sound: a fresh take on good ol’ American country music where melody and lyrics are never compromised. Our music, we hope, sounds a lot like home for our friends. But we also hope our music sounds a little like nothing you’ve ever heard before.
It is this sentiment that inspired us to write and record “Old Songs,” which will be our second self-released album following last year’s debut “Two.” This time, however, we will be recording with Grammy-award winning producer Mitch Dane of Sputnik Sound. We knew Mitch was the perfect fit the moment we walked into his studio. Vintage oil lamps, photos of country legends, and worn out acoustic guitars decorated the walls. We felt right at home. As for the recording gear: state-of-the-art. How did we get so lucky?! We are absolutely humbled to be working with Mitch, who, to our delight, has become a fan of our music and is excited to be working with us. He immediately hooked us up with the best in the biz: Matt Pierson (upright bass), Paul Eckberg (drums/percussion), and Justin Schipper (banjo, mandolin, pedal steel) were all performing on our record within the first week! Justin is currently a nominee for ACM String Player of the Year and he’s ON OUR ALBUM! Seriously… are we dreaming?!
We’ve got the greatest team a band could wish for; now we just need a little help to apply the finishing touches on our album so that we can release it to y’all. Although worth every darn penny, studio time and crazy-good talent still ain’t cheap. We’ve gotta pay Mitch and our amazing musicians for their hard work and talent. They’ve been so supportive of our musical vision; we need to make sure we can afford to compensate them adequately for their work. And despite what you may have heard about musicians, the vast majority of us are on a real tight budget.
In other words: we need your help.
But don’t worry. Remember that promise we made you to not disappoint? For helping us see our dream become a reality, we offer a variety of incentives as our humble way of saying, “thank you.” We have been filming the entire recording process and any donation to our Kickstarter fund will grant you exclusive behind-the-scenes access to this footage! Beyond that, you have an opportunity to be among some of the first people to get your hands on a copy of our album! Our Kickstarter friends can buy the dress Laurel wore in the “Two” music video or nab an “Original Country Music” t-shirt. Perhaps the best incentive, though, is the chance for us to come to your home and perform a private house concert for you and all of your friends! There is truly something for everyone.
We've added VINYL to our rewards! If you have already pledged for an existing package you may simply add 35 dollars to your donation (without reward) and we will send you some vinyl for your collection.
As our loyal listeners inspire us every day to make music through their encouragement and support, we hope our music helps you feel a little deeper, see the world a little brighter, and remember the good ol’ days spent with loved ones. You are what helps musicians continue to create and inspire and allow others to share in the joy of music. We hope that you will join us in this journey. We cannot do this without you.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support. Y’all are amazing! And we hope you enjoy “Old Songs” as much as we will enjoy making it for you!
With warm hearts,
Laurel & Wesley
