Start-up theatre company The Wit is producing Richard O'Brien's "The Rocky Horror Show" Oct 19, 20 and 31.

The Wit is putting on, wait a second, who is The Wit? Are they some 70's cover band?

No, we are absolutely not a 70's cover band. Now that is out of the way, we are a brand new theatre company in Denver. Seven months ago eight young upstarts realized the potential to make vital, amazing, and dynamic theatre together and thus, The Wit was formed. You can see an article about our conception and first show, The Pillowman, here http://goo.gl/pr1qc

So The Wit is putting on The Rocky Horror Show? Why are you screening a movie?

Oh, no no no. We aren't doing The Rocky Horror Picture Show. We are doing the play that the movie is based on, The Rocky Horror Show.

I knew that!...So then why are you putting on the musical?

We aren't just "putting it on". We are creating a theatre experience! We wanted to do The Rocky Horror Show because it is a beloved show, and just quirky enough to fit The Wit’s personality. We are taking the infamous Rocky Horror Show and doing it in a way that excites the audience more than ever before. We are going to be turning people on, but turning their brains and hearts on at the same time. The Rocky Horror Show is a musical about love, and its unconventional way to bring that love into the community through the magic of theatre.

Ok, good answer, but wait! I don't even remember what it was about anymore?

Sheesh, alright, we'll go over this one more time. The musical tells the story of a newly engaged couple, Brad and Janet, getting caught in a storm on their way to see Dr. Everett Scott. After an untimely flat tire ruins their journey, the couple seek shelter from the pouring rain and find themselves in the home of a mad transvestite scientist unveiling his new creation: a muscle man named Rocky Horror. Jog your memory yet?

Oh, yes! Now I remember. That sounds hilarious and wonderful and sexy all at the same time! But answer me this, why am I paying money here on Kickstarter. Don't you guys make money with tickets sales? C'mon, $2000 dollars? Really?

We need $2000 because this is one expensive show. Just to get the rights for this musical costs $1030 and the rental fees for our venue is no less than $800, depending on the amount of tickets sold. That's $1830 right there and that doesn't include insurance, marketing materials, costumes, makeup, set, or props, as well as the many other hidden costs that come up in putting on a theatre production. Also, mind you that ticket sales don't come until after the production closes and the ticket sales help fund our future projects and pay our actors and crew.

So you are only asking for $2000 then? That seems quite noble of you. But what if I want to give more than $2000. Could you use it?

That's so sweet of you. Yes, we could absolutely use it. The more money we are able to raise, the larger the budget can be meaning more elaborate sets, sexier costumes, microphones, functioning props, and even the possibility of adding more shows. That's sounds kinda cool, right?

It's very cool. It sounds so cool I wanna just go see it right now and fund this project!

You should absolutely go! We are selling tickets online at http://goo.gl/bNXgw if you're interested. But don't forget those tiers. There are some pretty cool things in there like getting a dinner date with Frank. How nuts would that be? Or being in the show! What!? So, ya know, think about it...Hello? Are you there?

(door slams)

Oh, I guess he went to go wait in line for the show. He might have to wait a while. We don't open until the 19th of October. But he'll be first in line. Will you be second?

So if this project sounds interesting and worthy of your time and money take a minute and invest in us. All these people below will be so pleased that you did.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

Putting on live theatre is no easy task nowadays. Live theatre demands time, money, enthusiasm, and dedicated work. There isn't an abundance of all those ingredients in every theater out there. This is why The Wit is so fantastic. We have all those resources except for the money. The money will come in time as our company develops but while we are still growing we are experiencing growing pains. This is where you come in. This is the opportunity to help invest in a young theatre company. One that is poised to explode and thrive in the Denver scene. We need your help to get that accomplished, and not just your money (which is super awesome), but in your minds and hearts as well. Thank you for considering our company.
