About this project
"The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.”
― Christopher McCandless
- To create a photo story book that portrays inspiring stories of wanderers, travelers and nomads from all over the world.
- To inspire people to travel, explore, get out of their comfort zones, and create their own paths.
I was so happy that I made an impact in their lives. If one story like mine can inspire many, imagine what a whole book can do? Traveling opens us up to the world, our true selves and our life's purpose. Imagine if people gained the courage to leave their unfulfilling lives to travel the world, the journeys they will embark upon, and the many dreams that will come alive. This notion lights up my soul. And all I can think of is creating this special book.
I'm partnering with friends at Artifact Uprising to create the limited-edition Kickstarter version of this beautifully bound book. All other rewards will be created through Artifact Uprising as well.Artifact Uprising is a print company inspired by the disappearing beauty of the tangible and is a community of inspired storytellers. They are driven by the belief everyone has a story to tell. I couldn't find a more perfect company to collaborate with on this project. The book, including all other rewards are made from Mohawk Options 100% post consumer recycled paper. FSC Certified. Acid free. Manufactured with wind power.
Every wanderer has an incredible story to tell, it just needs a little light. I truly feel that with all their stories, this book has the power to inspire the wanderer that resides in all of us. It will help give people the courage to get out of their comfort zones and live their dreams of traveling the world.Once this project is successfully funded, I will be on the road for at least six months. No specific plans, just the skeleton of a journey and let serendipity work its magic. I'll live as cheap as possible and stay at hostels, couch surf, and live on the bare minimum I need to travel throughout the journey.
This is more than just a book. Together, we are creating a movement. A movement that will inspire many. Traveling has a way of opening ourselves up to the world, discovering who we're meant to be, what we're meant to do, travel has created revelations and epiphanies that altered the course of history such as Che Guevara traveling in a motorbike all over South America and Charles Darwin in the Galapagos Islands. I believe that the book, this movement will inspire people to get out of their comfort zones, create their own paths and live their lives with passion, meaning, and adventure.
$20,000 is based on the absolute bare minimum I would need for this project. It includes travel expenses such as plane tickets, accommodation, food and transportation. Half of the funding will go towards the production and shipment of the rewards, the book reward is the Kickstarter limited-edition of the book. If there is extra left it will go towards any costs of publishing the final book. The other half will be used for my travels. Kickstarter and Amazon charges a total of 10% from the funds, so I will be left with 8,000 for travel. That would leave me at more or less 2,000-3,000 for plane tickets to and around Asia. And so I will be left with 5,000 to stretch as living expenses for as long as I can until I feel that my documentation and stories of The Wanderers are complete. This could take anywhere in between six months to a year. And I am willing to live as cheaply as I possibly can. I will not be staying in fancy hotels, or living lavishly. I never do. I will be staying at the cheapest hostels, couch surfing, camping, sleeping in god knows where, eating the cheapest street food, etc. This budget is just the bare minimum that I would need.
Risks and challenges
I will be traveling solo on this quest to bring the wanderers together so bear with me if any setbacks arises. As my supporters, I know you will understand gracefully.
I will work hard as I go, updating the blog, posting up pictures of each wanderer I connect with, sending rewards throughout the journey and sending the book to all you amazing people once it is finalized.
Note that this is not just a vacation for me. I will go through lengths to find stories, to find The Wanderers and to bring this book to life. And that requires a huge amount of my effort into this project on a daily basis, most especially while I am on the journey.
After my journey I'll settle somewhere in Asia for a couple months to work on the book and get everything sent out to my backers as promised. With the support of some of my peers who I trust and love, we will produce the rewards in a timely manner.
I'm very passionate about this project. And when I'm extremely passionate about something, I work hard and focus on producing the best final product. My vision has never been more clear. I will do everything I can to make this project come to life.
So I will do my best to give you the most compelling stories. The most beautiful images. And one incredibly inspiring book. Together, I believe with every cell of me, that we can make this happen.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
