The Wall of Answered Prayer is an ambitious plan by Richard Gamble former chaplain to Leicester City FC to build an iconic landmark in the UK by a busy motorway. This colossal structure will be made of a million bricks (equivalent to 62 semi-detached houses). Each and every brick will tell a unique story of how Jesus intervened in someones life. This piece of public art will tell a million accounts of answered prayer and will stand for generations.
The seed funding for this project is needed to run a global competition with the Royal Institute of British Architects to come up with the design of The Wall of Answered Prayer and to create the website database of the million answered prayers.
We need to hit 45k. If that doesn't happen then NONE of the pledges will be taken from anyones account. In other words its all or nothing!! Every pound you pledge will be match funded, so we can hit the 90k needed.
“To create a piece of public art for the nation, which captures a million accounts of how Jesus answered prayers.”
The Wall of Answered Prayer will not look like an ordinary wall, it will be an iconic architectural structure that will be inspirational.
To make this a reality the first step is to get a design that will be worldclass, and we are doing this by partnering with RIBA to run a global architectural competition to create 'The Wall of Answered Prayer'. The seed funding is to get that design competition underway.
Once the design is completed local councils, will bid to have the landmark built in their area. (see timetable below)
- A website will complement the landmark, capturing the detail of each answered prayer. In effect it will be a database of a million prayer testimonies, people will be able to search through it and find answered prayers that will relate to them and give hope.
- Onsite we hope to have a welcome centre which will allow people to explore more about prayer.
- Also for every brick built in The Wall of Answered Prayer we will be providing a brick for social housing enabling 62 to be built.
Please pledge to support this project as much as you can - its impact will last for generations. Don't be limited in your pledge by how many prayers you want to share, we will capture prayers after the campaign. Right now we need to hit target so every penny and cent are precious.
You have a unique opportunity to buy a brick in The Wall which will stand for generations. The brick will be specific to you, it will have a number which we will send you on an electronic certificate within 5 days of your pledge. Once the iconic landmark is built you will be informed as to its exact location in the structure. The brick number and location will also be tracked online where it will be connected to your story of how Jesus answered your prayer.
- You can buy a brick from anywhere in the world, we want this piece of public art to tell stories from around the nations. You do NOT need to be from the UK.
- If you’re not sure yet of your answered prayer don’t worry, we will contact you to request this within a month, but we have plenty of time until the structure is built to upload it.
- If you don’t want to use some or all of the bricks you get with your pledge that’s OK, we are happy to transfer bricks to those who can’t afford it. We can organise this for you on request.
Brick – An individual brick in 'The Wall' will be attributed to yourself and link to the prayer story that you have. In 40 days after the kickstarter we'll contact you to collect details of the answered prayer, which will then be uploaded.
Exhibition – During October / November 2016 we will have an exhibition in Westminster, London by the Houses of Parliament of all the entries for ‘The Wall’ displayed for visitors to view. At the VIP event you will have the opportunity to preview the exhibition, and hear the announcement of the shortlist of six that proceed to the next stage.
Opening Ceremony – Though five years away upon completion of The Wall the opening ceremony will be a grand affair with a number of dignitaries from all walks of life. VIP tickets will be available only to 100.
The funding needed initially is to get the project started. This will entail running the global RIBA design competition and creating a website that can collect all the answered prayers to be associated with each brick. The main areas that your pledges in this Kickstarter campaign will go to are:
- RIBA Competition – £57k
- Phase 2 Website – £30k
- Marketing – £5k
For at least the first £45k we raise an investor is match-funding what is raised on Kickstarter so we can achieve this dream.
In the longterm any profits will be used for social housing or to support Christian organisations. No individual will benefit.

“We are behind the idea of ‘The Wall’ because we have learned, time and again, through 15 years of continuous and creative prayer, that God is present, hears our weak and uncertain prayers and responds because He loves us. 'The Wall’ encourages people everywhere to do the same” Ian Nicholson, 24-7 Prayer (The Wall Board of Reference)
The God we serve and believe in answers prayers period! This is not a myth, fantasy or legend, it is a fact. Empirical evidence shows that the more people pray, the 'coincidences' of answers also increase. This bold step by Richard and his team to highlight the power of prayer is wholeheartedly endorsed by all within the National Day of Prayer and Worship movement. May the Wall remind the people of the UK. of our God that answers prayer! Dr Jonathan Oloyede Convenor of the National Day of Prayer and Worship and Team Leader of City Chapel (The Wall Board of Reference)
'The UK is littered with monuments and statues that tell stories about our culture. I am backing 'The Wall' because it will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come telling a story of God's faithfulness!' Andy Frost, Director of Share Jesus International and leads the London Mission Collective
The Wall is a worthy project of support as it will help affirm the UK as a country with a Christian Heritage, where the Church is alive and well. What a testament this land mark will be, when it records the answers to a million prayers. I highly recommend you support this unique project. What will The Wall look like? The Royal Institute of British Architects will run a global competition, which will be judged by a panel of experts to find the most stunning design for ‘The Wall’, to begin in the spring of 2016. It is expected to be an iconic structure representing a wall, but certainly NOT just a flat wall – it will be breath-taking. An exhibition of designs will take place in the autumn, with the winner announced at the end of the year.
Where will it be built? During 2016 a ‘hit list’ of ten sites will be collated and once the design is approved, councils will be approached. Sites that will be targeted are those by a motorway, but that also have a Christian heritage. There is a precedent to show that landmarks bring benefit to the area e.g. the Angel of the North has brought significant economic investment into Gateshead.

Risks and challenges
Will you get planning permission?
Yes, planning permission will be sorted. We have budgeted for a planning consultant to aid us in this process, and we will be looking to partner with the winning council.
There is a precedent to show that landmarks bring benefit to the area. The Angel of the North has brought significant economic investment into Gateshead. Not only does it generate an additional 400,000 visitors p.a., but the council have noted that more economic development in the area, as business have grown in confidence due to the council’s ability to create a landmark.
