UPDATE: $21,106 GOAL REACHED!
We are blown away by the support, and so stoked to've reached our goal! Y'all are AMAZING!!!
Additional funds...All additional funds pledged during these last two days will be directed towards our promotion and marketing budget, including creation of high quality music videos. We will be working with a radio promoter and publicist, and these additional funds will give us more leeway to expand on their marketing efforts, and to do additional social media marketing of our own as well. Marketing is the key to rising above the crowd and getting noticed in the increasingly busy world of independent music.
We are heading back to Nashville to record our third album - back to The Butcher Shoppe studio owned by John Prine, and used regularly by so many of our current heroes — and we need your help to make this dream come true!! We've been writing and polishing a batch of new songs that we can't wait to share with you, we want to make this album better than anything we've done before, and get it out to more people and places than ever before.
These days, album streams and video plays amount to very little money for an artist, so we're using this platform to work directly WITH YOU — our fans and supporters — to offer Kickstarter-only merchandise, advance copies of the album, workshops, performances, behind the scenes video, interviews, photos and more. Every reward you choose here makes a monumental impact on supporting our music and bringing this album to fruition. Dave Huebner, or "Cello Dave", has been the creative force behind our band merchandise, and he's created some exclusive artwork for this project.
Exclusive Kickstarter backer-only behind the scenes updates, interviews, video, photos, and more of the entire album making process.
Signed copies of the album on either CD or Vinyl Record.
Exclusive Kickstarter backer- only artwork designs on hats, shirts, stickers, & koozies.
Workshops with Julie and Dave on songwriting, guitar, cello, and the business of being a band.
Your name in the liner notes - Know that you'll be making a direct contribution toward the success of this album. We want to credit you for it!
Your own song! - We'll write a song just for you!
Your own concert! - We'll play a show just for you!
With your help here on Kickstarter, we released Postcard Town in 2017. Since then we have toured across the country promoting the album, which made it to #79 on the Americana radio charts, performed at incredible festivals from California to South Carolina, and shared stages with some amazing artists that we admire.
This past year we've collaborated with a wider variety of artists than ever before to bring more new music home to Sheridan, Wyoming. We love the bands that we are introduced to on the road, and we want to introduce them to our local hometown crowd. We hosted house concerts for Trout Steak Revival, Dead Horses, Lee Henke and Ira Wolf. We booked a tour that included a show at the WYO Theater with our friend Dean Owens (a Scottish Americana artist who won UK Americana Song of the Year in 2019). We also paired up with Black Tooth Brewing Company to host the first Tour Bus Music Festival which brought in The Gasoline Lollipops, Jalan Crossland, Seth Walker, Laney Lou & The Bird Dogs, Stoll Vaughan, and Ryan Acker. Notably, Black Tooth Brewing has been a wonderful friend of the band, and has kept us, and those we meet, from going thirsty on the road! We want to continue this effort, as we reach out with our music, and bring home the inspirations we find.
We've made a lot of memories and have really strengthened as a band. While we've had some personnel changes over the years - we originally recorded with Russell Smith on bass and then had Aaron Ashear for one year and now currently Taylor Phillips - we feel like each of those changes have brought unique influences to the band that have made us stronger and better as a result. All the stages we've played and miles traveled have helped us gel and tighten as a unit, and as close friends. We feel that the songs and arrangements for this third album will really reflect that strong bond.
Your Kickstarter packages will directly help us cover the following costs:
Recording & Production (tracking, mixing, mastering): 9,660
Duplication (album artwork, compact discs, vinyl, digital): 4,646
Publicity and Promotion (radio promoter, media publicist): 6,800
Total Kickstarter budget needed: $21,106
We know it sounds like a lot — it is a lot. This is what it will take to be able to complete the album and then market it to a national audience. We are SO excited to work with Will Kimbrough and Grammy Award Winner Sean Sullivan, and record in the magical Butcher Shoppe recording studio. We worked with the same team on our second album, Postcard Town, and it was an incredible experience. Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, The Del McCoury Band, Tim O’Brien, and many others have made records there. The studio is booked for a week in February. We also plan to work again with the legendary pedal steel player Bruce Bouton, and we will have some of the best in the business mixing and mastering the final product.
We love you and can't thank you enough for helping us on our musical journey. Your support has been incredible and we could not be where we are today without you.
We appreciate you all so much!
- Julie, Fred, Dave, Taylor
Risks and challenges
We have the studio time booked for February, as well as the mixing and mastering. The artwork is in process, and we have worked with the duplication companies and promotion companies before so we feel confident that we can deliver the album on time and to your expectations.
For vinyl purchasers - note that it will take longer for vinyl to arrive so we will keep you updated on that progress. Vinyl is regaining popularity and overwhelming the limited number of production facilities. Vinyl sales may surpass CD sales for the first time since 1986!
