What is TurboCool?
TurboCool is a revolutionary device designed to cool your favorite canned beverage to frosty-goodness in a fraction of the time it would take in your fridge or cooler. It’s simple: just add ice, water, your canned drink, pump for at least a minute and – Voila! – you have a cool beverage. What’s even better is that TurboCool doesn't require electricity or batteries so it keeps working as long as you have strength in your arms and warm canned drinks that need cooling. Plus, it’s compact and portable, so you can take it with you wherever you go. Help us reach our goal so you and your friends can be part of the first-ever manufacturing run of the TurboCool!

Story of Turbocool
The development of the TurboCool was fueled by sheer curiosity and the endless desire for a cold beer and other soft drinks. Inspired by a UC Berkeley physics class, TurboCool remained a pipe dream (or maybe more appropriately, a pint glass dream) until one fateful day when the stars aligned against warm beverages by bringing our team together from the corners of the Earth – Jeff from California, Aleksei from Russia, and Nicola from New Zealand – to create the “The United Nations of Beverage Cooling” (as we affectionately call ourselves).
TurboCool is the first product we created together, so we paid extra special attention to its development to make sure we got it right. We tested it for speed, effectiveness, durability, and good ol’ cold-drinkability (and yes, cold-drinkability is a word, look it up…actually don’t do that, get a TurboCool and you’ll understand).
TurboCool is unlike any beverage cooling product out there: it’s friendlier to your bank account, does not require batteries or electricity, and is completely portable. It’s durably constructed and super easy to use -- you only need a couple handfuls of ice and some water to start cooling your way to frosty-goodness.
TurboCool cools the contents of your canned beverage toward the temperature of the liquid you put in the device. We recommend using ice and water but if you have a cold mountain stream or snow nearby, that will do the trick too. Cooling time varies depending on how warm your can is to start, the temperature of the liquid inside the TurboCool, and how fast and for long you pump. Our prototype gets our drinks from warm to cold drinkability in about a minute. Pump longer and it will be even colder. And, most importantly your beverage won't explode upon opening, no shaking involved, your beverage is ready to drink as soon as it's cold. Best of all, this will all happen in a fraction of the time it would take to cool a beer passively in a cooler or fridge.
And, TurboCool is going to be put to good use! More than 95 billion beverage cans are produced in the US each year, with cans increasingly the container of choice for beverages because they’re the only one that is 100% recyclable and have excellent preservation qualities (no more skunky beer!). Cans are the best-selling container for beer, with even 200+ micro-breweries now serving their beer in cans. And as we all know, cans serve something for everyone - not just beer or soft drinks, but increasingly juices, iced teas, energy drinks, coffee and even wine.
Plus, it will be made in the USA.
Why do we need you?
To get TurboCool in the hands of thirsty folks, we’re missing one crucial component: You. We've invested in an intensive two years of product design, modeling, testing and patent submission, and now we have an elegant TurboCool prototype. We have personally funded this project thus far, but we need your help to invest in the tools to manufacture TurboCool and bring it to market.
The funds raised from this campaign, will help us cover the fixed costs to create molds for the manufacturing of the FIRST EVER line of TurboCools!

What to expect?
By joining the TurboCool team, you can expect us to quickly put on a full court press to get a TurboCool and all rewards into your hands (we don’t want you to consider -- even for one second -- consuming a warm canned beverage):
Step 1: (Day 1) - Upon contribution, celebrate with us that a TurboCool is coming your way! But, don't forget to tell your friends, their friends, and your mom and dad so they can help make sure we reach our goal and everyone gets a TurboCool!
Step 2: (Month 1) - We place the order for production. We'll also send a survey to all backers from who we need your color and size preferences for the t-shirt and TurboCool. You can then start planning all the camping trips you want, without having to worry about the lack of delicious frosty brews or sodas.
Step 3: (Month 2-5) - We oversee the entire TurboCool production process, and you can start planning what to do with all the extra space you'll have in your fridge now that you don't have to fill it with cans.
Step 4: (Month 6) - We package and ship your TurboCool and rewards to you!
Without you TurboCool will never see the light of day. And sadly, we will return to living in a world cursed by warm beer. Help us help you.

Risks and challenges
Getting to where we are today -- with a finalized prototype - has been a journey with many challenges and we realize the next leg of our adventure will inevitably come with its own challenges and/or unexpected obstacles. What is life without them?! However, we are confident that with our team and the research and planning we have done, we will overcome any new challenges and deliver our rewards in due time.
Producing the molds required for injection molding and manufacturing will be by far our biggest expense and challenge. Producing and funding them is no small feat, and has largely driven the size of our campaign goal. This is why we’ve selected one of the best partners in business, an injection-mold manufacturer with years of experience in mold creation and injection molding and partner to at least one successfully funded Kickstarter project, OloClip.. We are excited to partner with them as their main facility is in San Diego, making communication and testing much easier, and have already worked with them on estimates, schedule and delivery dates. With such a pro on our side, we feel confident we can deliver TurboCool to our supporters on time.
In addition to the injection-molded parts, we have two other required parts we have to source elsewhere. This offers unique challenges once you start relying on a bigger group of people, but we have done extensive research and testing and selected two suppliers we can deliver the quality and price we require in a timely fashion. Yes we do indeed! We have missed the opportunity to add that option to $31 reward level, but all other relevant rewards do have that option. If you wish to contribute at any of the two levels mentioned above, please add $22 to your total upon checkout.

We have designed TurboCool with two 12oz can-holder fittings, both neatly fit around the top lip of the can. These two fittings work with two of the most popular 12oz beverage can sizes in the US - first, think of a Coke can or Bud Light can, and second a Coors Light can. If your can slightly varies in size (within 1 mm or 0.03") from these parameters below, you are good to go.
1st: 53.5 mm or 2.1" diameter
2nd: 56.5 mm or 2.22" diameter
In the future, we'd like add functionality and fittings with more shapes and sizes of cans as we know there is a lot of variety in the marketplace, especially internationally. To start, we've picked the most popular for the US market.

In a nutshell, the longer you pump the TurboCool, the colder your drink will get, as long as the “cooling agent” is still colder than the beverage. One could experiment with various “cooling agents” for TurboCool, such as ice and water, or if you're in the outdoors even snow and a dash of water, cold mountain stream water or chilly ocean, sea, lake, or river water.
Our prototype tests have shown with two cups of ice and water we can cool from room temperature to 12-15 degrees cooler in a minute, and it will get around 18-20 degrees cooler in two minutes. One minute seems a minimum for cool-drinkability.
The cooling efficiency varies depending on how warm your can is to start with, the temperature of the "cooling agent" inside the TurboCool, and the time and intensity with which you pump.
TurboCool is a tool for cooling on-demand and it's you the user who can control the temperature to your liking. With your support we will be driving towards even further refinement of TurboCool as we prep for manufacturing!

No! TurboCool is designed so the movement of the can is smoothly in one direction so it won't shake up your can.

The TurboCool can do it all! However, it is ultimately up to you to decide what temperature you like your beverage to be.
The TurboCool utilizes simple principle of heat exchange (or in this case heat extraction). This process is enhanced by our "patent pending" technology that rotates the can inside a container filled with a "cooling agent". By "cooling agent" we mean ice & water, snow, water from stream, lake, pond, or even an ocean, as long as it is at or below the temperature you like your drink to be. The TurboCool will cool the beverage to the temperature of that "agent".
Now, you shouldn't forget that as the heat extraction progresses, the temperature of the "cooling agent" will increase proportionally; therefore, cycle the "cooling agent"a few times, that would get you there even faster. if you are not satisfied with the temperature of your drink in a minute, keep pumping the TurboCool, and you will get there in two.
The key to understanding how TurboCool works is understanding of all the variables you are working with.
1. The initial temperature of the beverage you are attempting to cool. (we have experienced a drop of 15 degrees after a minute of using TurboCool)
2. The temperature of the cooling agent you use, in general the colder the better. (water & ice, snow, river stream, lake, pond, an ocean)
3. The length of time you are "pumping".
There is currently no plans to make TurboCool suitable for bottles. In our process we are relying on highly conductive qualities of the aluminum. In turn, glass is a poor conductor; hence making the heat transfer a lengthier process; therefore, NOT COOL FOR TURBOCOOL. )
The TurboCool is a tool and how you apply it is solely up to you!
