Frequently Asked Questions
As this is my first Kickstarter project I'm trying to keep things as straight forward as possible to be able to fulfil all your orders.
I decided that as this is a Kit project I would leave the insides their natural finish, so that if anyone did want to customise their full colour kits, they have a blank canvas to work with.
Leather is a versatile medium and will take easily available products like acrylic paints well.
If you fancy a Gorgon Green Bag with a bright copper inside? That's great pick your favourite paint and go for it.
Of course if you would prefer to dye/stain the inside panels there are many easily available water based dyes on the Tandy website.
I cant wait to see how you all change your kits to suit your own styles.Last updated:
Unfortunately the way the effect finishes work on the Rolling Trays doesn't work with the numbers on the kit panels. The finishes sit in the sharp recesses and highlight the detail and embossing on the trays. With the bold stamping of the numbers there aren't any recesses for the tray finishes to sink in to.
In the same way as above however if you want to make your numbers Pop with Bright contrasting colours, Neon's, or Metallic's find your self your favourite Acrylic paints, a brush, and a steady hand. Make something Unique to you, but don't forget to send us pictures when you do.Last updated:
Acrylic paints available to you will vary a little depending on what country you are based in.
Companies with acrylics that are high in pigment are generally better, I think a lot of american Leather workers use the Angelus paint range ( https://angelusdirect.com/collections/paint), but even brands like Games Workshop or Vallejo used for painting miniatures will be fine and come in a wide range of shades and colours.Last updated:
All Unlocked Stretch Goal finishes will be available to choose from in the Backer Survey at the end of the Campaign.
Both Flame and Tendril are considered STANDARD extra colours, even though they have a pearl effect they wont cost any extra.
The 3 Glitter Storm variations, Unicorn Blood, Galactic Mermaid, and PriamFaya are all special effect finishes, that unfortunately cost more to produce. If you would like to upgrade to one of these UPGRADED finishes please add £5 to your pledge for each standard kit you would like to have in one of these finishes.Last updated:
Now that some of the special effect finishes are Unlocked can i get my rolling tray in a matching colour?
Yes, Yes you can. If you have your heart set on something Sparkly and Shiny for your Bag Kits finish and you want a rolling tray to match that's fine. Just add the £5 extra for the special effect finish to you bag pledge and the £20 add on for your tray and I'll upgrade the tray finish for free.
However I cant offer the option of a highlight colour as it may effect how well your Glitter finish sparkles or your chromatic shifts.
If you want to order a standard bag kit finish but a special effect tray please add £22.50 for your tray instead.
All the options will be listed in the Survey at the end of the campaign.Last updated:
If you're worried about sewing, don't think of it as sewing think of it as lacing. Every panel comes pre-punched with regularly spaced holes. A needle with a large eye will make everything easier, you can find these as tapestry/household needles or check out the Tandy Website for their range of leather working needles.
The easiest pattern is a cross stitch, just like our pink bag. You can have 4 crosses on the outside or 8, both will work fine.
If you're worried about your lacing coming undone keep it simple and just lace one edge (pair of edges) at a time and tie off when you get to the end. Here is a short video about tying knots ( https://youtu.be/0Y_iorha2k4) and if you're still concerned a dab of superglue over the know will definitely keep things in place.
Instructions will be in your kits and i'll upload a full step by step build guide to the website.Last updated:
Each of our kits comes with a Miles of thread! by miles I mean approximately 30 meters. Mistakes happen, some people cut longer pieces than others, some stitch styles take more cord than others. I wanted to make sure every one had enough cord to make a the odd mistake and stitch it how they wanted without running out part way through. The guys who built the Version one kits had 22 meters to play with and still had plenty left over. With our cord Spool upgrade they come with approximately 30 meters nicely wound.
Of course if something terrible happens and for any reason you do happen to run out of cord half way through your build drop me a message and i'll make sure to send some more out.Last updated:
Most of our Dyes are water based. We get our dyes, and our leather from two different small local companies here in England. We like to support our small family businesses where we can.
As we use water based dyes of course they are sealed, even If you get your leather pieces wet, the colours wont rub off on your favourite jeans.
As to what exact products I'm using to create these finishes, I'm sorry but I'm keeping that little secret to my self. A girl has to keep a few trade secrets here and there.Last updated:
Honestly? Style. I love the depth of colour, contrast, and drama, that adding adding black to work does. With out the black I the colours would still be nice yes, but perhaps a little flat.
I personally colour every single triangle that goes in to our coloured kits, yes those edges are more work, but I think they're worth it.Last updated:
Leather is a natural material, and how you need to look after it will vary greatly depending on where you are in the world. I'm quite lucky I live in an area with very few extremes of weather or temperature. The best thing I can say is to look at how you look after other leather goods you own. Try not to leave it in the baking sun, as it will dry it out. You can use Lanolin and bees wax based creams to condition your leather with if it does dry, also Neatsfoot oil will water proof and soften it if worked in. You can even use Neutral Boot Polish on the pieces if you want a really High shine water resistant finish.Last updated:
Yes, this will be an option in the survey at the end of the campaign.
You will be able to pick the set colour you want panels to be and if you would prefer Silver or Gold finished eyelets.
For the Muggle kits your colour choice is the choice of cord, and eyelets.Last updated:
