(nota bene: the character designs may change slightly from now until publication date)
Stevie has been the President of the Student Council for the last three years. During that time, with the help of the Council, the power-mad 8-year-old has managed to usurp nearly all power from the Faculty and the Principal.
He now seeks the Presidency for a fourth term.
'Beans' recounts the highs and lows of that campaign, as he and Skippy, Tony, Kenny and Steebie conspire, bully and intimidate the other students - all the while fending off the challenges of their rivals, Tommy, Jay and Lizzie!
This election will get messy, if not downright dirty.
'Beans' is a satirical comic strip that reflects the Canadian Federal political landscape. Characters are inspired by real people and the actions and dialogues are inspired by real events. It is intended to provoke reflection, dialogue and laughter.
By transposing the setting to a grade school (albeit a posh, private one) it compares the behaviour of our elected representatives with that of school children. The outrageousness of their behaviour begs the response: "They can't do that!"
Sure they can. And they will.
(This is merely a comic strip, after all - so we're going to have fun with it.)
'Beans' has been written to coincide with the 2015 Canadian Federal election campaign, and is scheduled for publication and distribution from September 7 to October 19 - the date of the upcoming election. Let's face it: context is everything!
It will be a black & white Sunday strip-style cartoon running Monday through Friday for six weeks (and a day) for a total of 31 strips. However, there is room for bonus weekend strips should the Kickstarter campaign exceed our primary target.
Yes, free bonus strips.
In fact, we've already written a few (and one with a hilarious new character!).
'Beans' has been conceived so that it could carry on after this campaign, should there be interest. As with school, people come and go, and the dynamics change. Irrespective of who's on the scene politically, we can adapt the strip to reflect that.
We can introduce new characters, bring back old ones, tackle new subjects, and poke fun of the latest missteps, mispeaks, and generally moronic acts of government. 'Beans' has the potential of fluidity and long-term freshness.
And many, many laughs.
We're confident that you will love 'Beans'.

Risks and challenges
The scripts have all been written. The basic character designs are done. The first strip has been completed.
The roughs of the next 30 strips are in the process of being drawn up. Then the final, clean versions will be completed.
In the unlikely event that there should be delays in the production of the strips, we will get help from other parties.
'Beans' will be ready to roll by the end of August, and will be distributed from Sept. 7 to Oct. 19, 2015, as planned.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
