The first 60% of the funds will go towards tooling and setting up our manufacturing facility for the first production run of SWON. As a complex IoT device, combined with water and battery implications, we need to have precise components setup and configured to ensure the device works just as described. The next 30% will go towards research and development to further improve key UX components of the product’s iOS/Android application both for consumers and water authorities, as well as for further development into the various IoT ecosystems with our partners. The final 10% of funds will be committed to giving back to those nonprofits that are supporting both water conservation efforts, as well as providing access to those in need of clean drinking water across the globe. This will be through both direct monetary support, as well as product development with our technology to support these important water efforts.
After spending 5 years at Adobe helping build up what is now a flourishing mobile business, I left in 2015 to build a content studio focused on video, animation, and virtual reality. That company, Malka Media, now has over 30 employees, and through it’s growth, I focused my attention and passion on bigger issues facing us a race, not just Americans. Thus birthed SWON, which stemmed from an article I was reading about all the water issues facing California. When I hopped in the shower that night, I was soaping up and thought to myself “I wonder how much water I’m using right now”. The fact that I didn’t know really upset me. I knew how many calories my lunch had, where my food came from, and where my trash went, but not how much water I was using. I shower daily (ok, maybe every other day) and when I finally researched it, I was astonished to realize just how much water it was. I knew I not only needed to educate people about how much water daily activities like showering use, but design a device that can easily help manage it.
Through various relationships I had established through Adobe, I was led to an amazing product development team in MTS Ventures, which helped me over a course of a year design, refine, and prototype the original sketch I had shared for this ubiquitous (and very low cost) product. Through the rigorous development and back and forth, I was introduced to CompAid’s software development team who delivered impeccable skill sets to develop a scalable ecosystem for the product beyond its firmware and software.
Malka Media is true content studio with capabilities across design, animation, and video. Our 30 in-house creatives are able to develop interesting and innovative content that tells each customer's story. We’re always trying to push the limits, and have built the company from the ground up with zero fluff, all full-time creatives, and our own arsenal of equipment, to produce commercial level content on budgets and timelines that we once thought impossible.
MTS Ventures is a full service product design and development studio that works with a diverse set of clients and partners on a global scale. The team at MTS has a broad background with experiences in delivering products to the market as varied as LED lighting, commercial restaurant equipment, office technology support mechanisms, handheld technology devices for enhancing museum visits, and even writing code to operate satellites.
Labs is a small but nimble, innovation team within the larger CompAid organization focused on software design and development around mobile and web applications, system integrations, IoT, and new product strategy.
