Welcome! We are The Stubby Shillelaghs, a high-energy Celtic folk band out of Northern Colorado that draws inspiration from many creative influences; The Dubliners and Iron Maiden, just to name a few.
Over the years, we have performed and written a variety of nerdalicious tunes and are excited to announce we will finally be combining it all into a full-length “Album of Geekery” entitled Critical Fail.
This album is a love letter to all things ‘geek’ that we, and many of you, all know and love. Some of you may have already taken a listen to our song I.R.A. (Interstellar Rebel Army), which will be included on the upcoming release and receiving a full studio treatment and while some song-writing is still in process, we can assure you that we will have a solid mix of tracks that cover the comic, sci-fi and fantasy worlds.
The Geek/Nerd World (whichever you prefer) is one we live in every day, and it is our extreme pleasure to be in a position to finally capture our passion for these fandoms onto a full-length album that we can share with our fans.
We hope that in addition to our loyal fans that we love seeing regularly at shows and festivals, new fans will also stumble into our fun, unique world of music and find themselves right at home! We feel a strong sense of camaraderie among our band and listeners who enjoy high energy Celtic folk song with a little bit of a nerdy edge.
We are also happy to announce that for the first time since 2012's Whiskey Business, our new album will be FAMILY FRIENDLY. While we love getting rowdy, drinking, and using certain four letter words a lot on stage, we wanted to make this album was one that could be enjoyed by adults and kids alike.
So why are we Kickstarting? The answer is simple! We want to get back into Denver’s The Decibel Garden to record Critical Fail and work with the superpowered engineer Silas "The Warlock" Thomason to bring you guys a truly quality musical experience. This kind of production doesn't come for free, and so we need your help to get us that studio time to record and produce our album. We promise - you’ll want to geek out to it year-round!
There are some additional things we are hoping to do this year including a single with the incredibly talented Mandy Harvey, a music video for our song I.R.A (Interstellar Rebel Army) and some Stubbified metal covers, as well. Hopefully you can help us reach these goals!
Here's the breakdown:
All backers of $10 or more will receive a digital download of the Across the Sea EP featuring Mandy Harvey. Backers at $20 and above will receive a physical copy as well!
All backers of $10 or more will receive a high quality digital download of our video for I.R.A. (Interstellar Rebel Army). UPDATE: Also going to give all of our backers at $10 and above a sweet Stubbies keychain if we reach this level.
All backers of $10 or more will receive an additional EP release of Stubby Metal Covers, tentatively titled Folkin’ The World.
We love our fans, and know you are so incredibly supportive, so you better believe there will be even more stretch goals announced if you help blow this campaign out of the stratosphere and above our current $4,000 mark!

Risks and challenges
Short of something incredibly unforeseen, there aren't really a lot of risks involved with this enterprise (reference intended). The worst case scenario would involve a delay in production, but would still involve something occurring that isn't even registering on our scope of possibility. Overall, we have a good track record of finishing our projects on-time and on-budget, and always deliver a quality experience for the most important people who make this all possible - YOU!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
