Virtual Swag, AcadeCon 2017 and other stuff.
It has been a while since we checked in. Caleb and I wanted to take a few minutes for some updates.
Virtual Swag from AcadeCon 2016
If you purchased a badge (VIP, GM, or Regular) or pledged at the Virtual Swag level for AcadeCon 2016 Kickstarter, you are still owed those virtual items. We ran into a slight hiccup with one piece which should be finished soon. When it is, we’ll be sending it all out. Through the course of the campaign, we unlocked several Battle Bards tracks, several adventures from City of Brass, an adventure from Will Hindmarch and a supplement from our friends at Tabletop Terrors. Once we have everything ready we’ll be in touch once again to those eligible to get your items sent out.
AcadeCon 2017: Fifth Edition will be in Dayton, OH at the Dayton Convention Center on November 10-12. The VIP get-together will be on November 9.
We are launching the Kickstarter Campaign for AcadeCon 2017: Fifth Edition on Thursday April 13th, 2017 at 1:00 PM Eastern. Like last year, using Kickstarter to get your badges early helps us immensely as we can use those funds to pay our deposits and make sure everything is ready to go. The setup is very similar to last year with a limited number of VIP badges and GM badges being available. There is one small change this year in that all regular badges are $35 with no early bird pricing or limited quantities. This price is less than the full price if you wait and purchase a badge after the campaign or at the door.
There will still be a limited amount discounted GM badges, though as always, anyone can run games (and we hope you will) but if you’re willing to run them to our (very reasonable) guidelines you get a heavily discounted badge. We’re also going to use the Kickstarter to pre-sell vendor spots, table toppers, and sponsorships.
Another perk of using the Kickstarter is exclusive swag. We are hoping that we can unlock these via stretch goals and offer the items to our early supporters (GM/Regular/VIP badges). We DO plan on having these items for sale on site. But if we hit our goals, any backer who bought a badge through the Kickstarter will get them included.
We will be offering an exclusive Kickstarter t-shirt as an add-on. The price will be $10 per shirt ($12 for 2XL or larger) and it will feature an exclusive logo (which we’re pretty excited about) which will not be available after the Kickstarter campaign ends. If you don’t get one through the campaign, you can’t get one.
Make sure that you’re ready on April 13 if you want to be a VIP; the VIP badges went within a few minutes last year and expect the same to happen again this year.
The housing block for AcadeCon 2017 is already live at the Dayton Crown Plaza. Call 1 (937) - 224 - 0800 to reserve your room. Mention AcadeCon when you book your room for a discounted rate.
One of our friends from the Fandible podcast reached out to let us know about a convention in Cleveland, Ohio the weekend of March 10th – 12th. Caleb might make an appearance, depending on his work schedule. If you are near Cleveland or willing to travel, check it out at http://www.clevelandconcoction.org/
Origins / GenCon & more
Michael and many of the crew from The Rpg Academy podcast and Network will be attending Gencon again this year. Make sure you look for our Wednesday night Pre-GenCon get together for a casual hang out gaming event.
Michael and a few of the IRL Faculty as well as some of the guys from Redemption (so far, may be more ) will also be at Origins, unsure if we’ll be hosting any events just yet.
Michael will also be attending several local conventions (or will be trying) including DayCon, WittCon, Lexicon, CinCityCon and CincyCon. If you’re going to any of these and want to say hi, find Michael on social media ( @therpgacademy ).
That’s it for now. We are hoping to have the virtual swag lined up in a few weeks or less and then start the countdown to AcadeCon 2017 proper.
Michael & Caleb & everyone at the Academy!
