About this project
AcadeCon 2016: Leveling Up!!
We've finally counted up all the experience gained by running three years of incredible conventions and uncountable hours of our podcasts, and now it is time to take it to the next level!
With AcadeCon 2016: Leveling Up! we at The RPG Academy are expanding and growing our own regional tabletop gaming convention. This year it will be in the Dayton Convention Center, in Dayton, Ohio. AcadeCon is happening November 11th-13th, 2016.
AcadeCon's primary focus remains tabletop role playing games. But we welcome board games, card games, tactical miniatures games, LARPs, and anything else that gets people together playing games and having fun!
We have had the extreme fortune of building a wonderful community of gamers that listen to our podcast and play games with us. More than anything, we thrive on interacting with our listeners and fans. This is the true purpose of AcadeCon.
If you’ re not sure if this convention is for you or not, please consider our motto: If you're having fun, you're doing it right!
If that sounds like something you’d like to support, please buy a badge and come game with us if you can. If not, a donation goes a long way.
Thank you for checking out our Kickstarter and we hope to see you in November!

What's AcadeCon all about?
AcadeCon is specifically designed to be a smaller, non-traditional convention. We are not trying (nor do we want to) compete with or replace the huge conventions that attract a national audience. At our convention, you're going to get access to 24-hour gaming, a better chance to play in games you want, the opportunity to spend time and game with special guests, and time to hang out with some of the best gamers in the world - the fans of our show!
Whether you are one of our listeners, are interested in meeting and playing with some of our special guests, or just found us by accident, we hope you'll consider attending our convention or simply donating to the cause.AcadeCon 2016 is our fourth annual gaming convention. We've hosted three previously successful cons, with the first two being invite-only due to space limitations. Last year we opened it to the public and it was better than we could ever imagined. That’s why we are growing and expanding this year. At the Dayton Convention Center, we have room to grow for years to come.
WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO WITH ALL YOUR MONEYS?
We have set our minimum funding goal as that – our absolute minimum. The cost of reserving space at the Dayton Convention Center is over 80% of that initial goal. If we reach that minimum goal, we can afford to hold the event and not lose any money. However, that doesn’t include anything else we need, such as the cost of bringing in so many amazing special guests. We can have the Con without them, but why would we want to? We need your help to reach those stretch goals. We want to provide an almost unprecedented experience by putting these special guests in the trenches of AcadeCon running and playing games on the convention floor.
If we reach $15,000.00 or more we can also bring in the GenCon board game library. This will allow our guests to have access to over 1,000 board game titles, 24/7 during the event with no per-game or added costs.
WHO ARE THESE SPECIAL GUESTS THAT YOU KEEP TALKING ABOUT?
OTHER SUPER COOL THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING
Our inner SciFi nerds are insanely happy to have this chance to pull on those costumes that we don't tell anyone about and log some time on the Artemis Space Bridge Simulator. Sponsored by Game Base 7, this is going to be a highlight of the con. Registration information for these games will be included in the gaming schedule when it is released after the campaign ends.
Sponsored by Double Exposure, the Envoy program is unique and awesome! The Double Exposure team will provide us with about 25 brand new games that you can try out during AcadeCon. Every time you play a demo, you are entered into a drawing to win that game! You can play the same game multiple times to get a better chance at winning something you really enjoy or play them all and see if Lady Luck is smiling on you.
$11,000 - Special Guests. We couldn't choose a favorite and neither should you. At this level we can afford to bring in all the guests that have agreed to come play games with us.
$12,500 - Branded Swag Bag. At this level each of our guests who physically attend AcadeCon will get a branded Swag Bag. To start it will be empty, sort of. Nothing physical will be included but it will come full of digital goodies! The Swag Bag starts with access to the library of Dark Discovery episodes (an RPG Academy Patreon-exculsive podcast), a Fifth Edition compatible adventure written and designed by The Rpg Academy Network, and a 25% discount code for A City of Brass subscription.
***if swag bag items are unlocked from the social goals (see below) those will still be honored even if we don't hit this level***
$13,500 - Each of our attendees (as well as virtual swag bag backers) will get a custom AcadeCon d6 added to the Swag Bag. VIPs, GMs and any of our Patreons that show up will get a set of four.
$14,000 - our Friends at TableTop Terrors will add a free to download link to one of their RPG supplements into the Swag Bag.
$14,500 - We'll add a branded AcadeCon Sticker and Magnet into the Swag Bag.
$15,000 - At this level we can afford to bring in over 1,000 board/card/dice games that will be free to use during the entire convention, hosted by Lending Library Logistics.
$16,000 - At this level we will throw in a custom AcadeCon 2016 Poker chip into the Swag Bag. These are perfect for Inspiration at your DnD tables or other markers.
$17,000 - At this level Network friend Jim McClure, host of Talking Tabletop, will throw a download link to one of his in-development games. Since this wont happen till November we don't know which one it will be, but you can go to his website- Third Act.pub and check out all the awesome things he's working on!
$18,000 - At this level we will throw in an AcadeCon 2016 branded bookmark and button into the Swag Bag.
$19,000 - At this level Aram, from the Godsfall Podcast will include a download link to his Godsfall worldbook into the Swag Bag.
$20,000 and beyond - Who knows???
Social Stretch Goals:
What are Social Stretch Goals? They're this nifty new part of crowdfunding where additional rewards are unlocked simply by talking about the AcadeCon campaign on social media! As you can see from the chart above, we will be tracking both new followers of the official AcadeCon Twitter account and all Likes and Shares about AcadeCon Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and pretty much everything else! This also includes the posts from Kickstarter after you've backed, so this is such an easy goal to meet!
As a super special crazy bonus, as soon as either of these goals crosses the 300 mark, the official AcadeCon module will be converted into the fantastic system by Rob Schwalb, Shadow of the Demon Lord!
So go ahead and do what you were going to do anyway...post about coming to AcadeCon and share/like/scream from the rooftops all of our campaign update posts and all of these awesome goodies will be yours!

Risks and challenges
At this point, the biggest risk is that we don't fund, in which case the event does not happen. The venue this year is much more expensive than the one we used in 2015 and our costs are much higher. If we can't make it to our minimal funding we can't afford to put on the show. As long as we fund, only a catastrophe would stop the event from happening.
Beyond that, we are having the event in Southern Ohio in November. We can't control the weather so there may be a chance that people coming from out of town may have difficulty getting there or back. We are not responsible for any travel arrangements, costs, or difficulties.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
