Introducing: The Ridge Stand
A New Way to Work...
Work environments today are often hostile to the very thing they were designed for- productive thinking. Too many people are stuck in offices for 8 to 12 hours a day, static and sedentary, sitting in a cubicle or hunched over a desk staring hour after hour at a laptop screen or desktop monitor. This kind of work environment is counter productive and unhealthy. We felt it was time to make a change.
Remove Clutter for Clarity...
The Ridge Stand was designed to help cut the clutter out of the workday and give back the clean lines and open spaces that promote productive thought. We believe that people will get more done when they have a clean, organized workspace. Less clutter means less distraction which equates to greater focus and productivity.
Your Office Just Got Portable...
Portability Gives Flexibility: Everyone is different. Some people work and think best in a quiet, isolated space while others thrive in a busy environment with background noise. Whatever the work place or the work time, one thing is certain, by being able to move your workspace, you have greater control to choose when and where to work, allowing yourself the freedom to always work at your best.
Sleek, Lightweight, and Durable...
A "Less is More" Approach to Design...
The Ridge Stand, including its case, weighs 430 grams (15.1 ounces). That comes to less than one pound. When the average individual has multiple smart devices being hauled in pockets, bags and briefcases each day, it's important that every pound of gear can carry its weight.
High and Dry in a Good Way: A cup of coffee is a wonderful thing for your brain but a complete horror for your electric brain (your personal computer.) The Ridge Stand can offer better protection to your MacBook Air and other smart devices by keeping them "high and dry" and off the desktop/tabletop and away from any potential spill zone.
Striking a Chord: Regardless of the ever-increasing sophistication of electronics, one thing remains constant: the need for power. And despite modern gadgetry, today power still usually comes from charging cables. Cables can snake across desks and creates tripwires and an unsightly mess. The Ridge Stand alleviates tangles with a five-channel chord organizer to handle all the extras we connect to our laptops and devices.
Keeping Things Cool: Where there is electrical power there's heat. Even in some of the modern computers and smart products, heat can build and prevent a device from running at peak performance. The Ridge Stand reduces heat associated with laptops, phones, and tablets by elevating the units and providing better ventilation.
Open Up Desk Space: A laptop can deprive a table or desk of over a square foot of space. The Ridge Stand, when used as an upright stand, can provide MORE useable desk space, allowing you to stay organized and more productive.
Better Posture: It's all too common to get lost in your daily work and not realize how poor your work posture is. It's time to lose the back aches, neck aches, and sore eyes. The Ridge Stand gets your laptop computer up off your desktop, putting it at a proper distance and in your natural line of vision.
Stand By Me: The Ridge Stand can hold two iPhones. Whether you are a work professional needing to carry two phones or you have a significant other that also docks a phone near your own, now there's a better way to keep two phones together.
Materials Used: The Ridge Stand is made out of aluminum alloy.
We've also added rubber buffers to help grip and protect your laptop or
device when set on the stand. We selected a high grade, high torque hinge system that can sustain a placement weight of 1.5 kilograms, providing a stable, durable platform for a MacBook Air computer or any other accompanying smart device.
A Touch of Color: We have selected three different colors for The Ridge Stand's rubber buffers. Choose a color that you like best.
STRETCH GOAL: $45K (UNLOCKED)

Project Fulfillment Timeline: Once our Kickstarter campaign successfully finishes in mid-September, there will be a two week window for Amazon payment processing. During this time we will be collecting backer information and setting up for factory production. Once we receive funds, manufacturing of The Ridge Stand will begin, starting in the beginning of October. Lead in time for manufacturing will be four to five weeks, after which we will begin shipping out The Ridge Stand to our backers. We anticipate that all backers will be able to receive their orders by the end of December, if not sooner.

How We Will Use the Money: We will use the money raised on Kickstarter for our first production run of The Ridge Stand, as well as to cover some design, sampling and tooling expenses we have had to get to this point. Additional profit raised will be put toward further development of our product in the market.
The Birth of an Idea...
Can't Stand the Aches and Pains: About a year and half ago, I was working in my office and
found I had developed severe neck and back pain from extended hours
logged behind my laptop computer. My friend suggested that I use a
laptop stand to help improve my posture and get rid the constant aches
and pains. I agreed with him. As a designer and super active individual, I live and work
on the go, only touching down at the office a short period of each day or week. Mostly I take to coffee shops, public parks or my home living room to take care of my work, or if I'm traveling- airports, hotels, or diner restaurants.
The Search Begins: I realized I needed to find laptop stand that I could take with me on the go, allowing me to "hotbox" an office as needed. I looked everywhere but couldn't find what I was looking for on the market. All I found were large laptop stands that were too bulky and immobile, or lightweight but flimsy and cheap. I decided to go ahead and buy two lightweight stands and try them out. I quickly regretted the decision. The first stand looked amazing but was a one-show-pony, only helping to prop up my MacBook Air when closed. The second stand would allow my laptop to used while open but nearly destroyed my computer when its slim design and week base wobbled and collapsed after a friend bumped my desktop. It was then that I realized that I wanted to make a stand that could do a better job.
Time for a New Design: I took this idea back and discussed it with my design partners, Nicolas and Leonardo. We all agreed that there was a definite need for stand like this, and together we took to the drawing board and started working to create a stand that could meet the perfect balance of functional design, clean aesthetics and light-weight portability. Off we went... running the fun roundabout of sketching, making renderings and tooling out sample after sample both using our in-house 3D printer as well as regular visits to a larger factory. Finally, in March of this year, we reached a design that captured the exact intent we were after, leading us up to today.

Risks and challenges
BACKGROUND: Having experience working in product development, as a design team we realize what it takes to create and deliver a product according to a scheduled timeline. During the design process for The Ridge Stand, we spent months prototyping, tooling, and making improvements to the design to ensure the product is at a mature point to release to market.
RISKS AND CHALLENGES: That said, every product and project will have its own set of challenges and risks. Factory delays, issues in locating parts and raw materials, are just a few to mention. The biggest challenge often being the ability to control the factory production and order fulfillment in the timeline put forward at the on-start.
PLAN: We can't eliminate all the risks but we can say we have followed through to minimize any potential problems by having a good relationship and familiarity with the factory doing our production, along with a great understanding of our own product's design, its mechanics and materials, and the support and knowledge base found within our team of designers to be able to handle any unforeseen challenges that might arise later on.
OPEN COMMUNICATION: Apart of this, we will be offering an open line of communication with our backers during the course for each stage of our campaign by sending out regular updates and information relating to our project as time goes on. We appreciate transparency and know our backers feel the same.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
